How do I butcher animals?

I have a knife and a fresh dead rat in my inventory, but I am not getting the option to butcher it. What am I doing wrong?

Same. Cant's also craft soups and over dishes like in b41 (it was much easier with old craft system).

There's a bug right now where you can't butcher animals from your main inventory, seems like you have to drop them first and then hit them with a melee weapon, and right click their 3D model to interact with them to butcher.

I can still right-click to make soups, which is how I prefer

I 'accidentally' ran over a load of rabbits. I wasnt able to butcher them neither.
tbf, they were probably far too flattened to be of any use. oopsie.

They added extra some extra steps. Now you have to open the crafting window and do it from there. UI feels like EVE Online now, haha

I butchered from my inventory last night just fine I thought? IDK

I have a cow hooked up on a butchering hook but the menu does no longer show the buttons for bleeding out, butchering etc. Do I need a special tool? I can however butcher it when it lays on the ground...

There's an additional requirement for a lot of recipes now where you must do so at a surface, so don't forget that part. Probably not your issue, but gotta rule out everything.

Doesn't let me butcher from my inventory menu. I have to use the crafting menu on the side to butcher. That seems to work just fine. Probably just a bug, would be nice to be able to butcher from both to be honest.
