Anyone found a way to level welding?
I'm trying to get good enough to fix up car parts, but disassembling isn't giving any xp.

Metalworking? Disassembly no longer gives xp so youll have to make metal stuff in the cradting or building menu. I havent tested it yet personally but i know boarding up windows gave me carpentry xp, so may try barricading things with metal sheets too.

No, there's another skill under Tailoring in the skills menu called Welding. It's used with metalworking with some stuff and in vehicle trunk/hood/etc repair.

It has one item available to craft in the craft menu for those without any Welding level but I heard it gives no xp

Ah, my bad. Didnt know there was a discreet welding skill. Yeah, ive got no clue then. May still be an idea to try the sheet metal barricade? Maybe it will give welding skill instead of metalworking.

I turned dismantle XP back on because I could not imagine leveling welding on its own. Finding enough welding torches and propane to even dismantle things is a tough thing, nevermind trying to get enough XP to make anything useful by dismantling to materials WITHOUT getting XP to get enough materials to build enough things... I think without dismantle XP settings changed, you'll need the welder starting occupation to have access to enough recipes to level it further.

However, you MAY be able to get XP form TV. I don't know if there are any welding VHS tapes or shows on Life and Living, and that kind of XP caps at level 3 per default settings anyway, but it might be a way to get TO level 3 to get enough recipes to craft your way up from there. Starting from 0 with no dismantle XP to get you started may be TOO hard.

I would probably just turn it back on.

It's understandable on a multiplayer server to have no dismantling xp turned on. There's too many problems with players stripping towns and screwing other players over. they can buy/sell/trade (or maybe forced...negotiations) with other players to get the materials they need to grind xp by crafting.

In a solo game, either on your own PC or a private server I see no harm in having it on to alleviate some of the grind. Otherwise you would have to grind all the mats before you can grind the skill you really want.

Since i play solo too, i reactivated the dismantling xp - at least i thought so. Is it just me or does ripping cloth still not give xp? Any advise?

Dismantling clothes never worked, only on selct things that had to be cut with scissors, anything from ripping T's and other cloth items do not give exp.

Ok no, cant confirm. Cutting stuff like denim or leather wont give any xp either. Im pretty sure i could get xp for ripping cloth at some point, no?

I THINK you could...I'm just not sure. I used to just gather stupid amounts of cloth and thread from tearing rags and sit in a corner like some weird tailoring gnome and just add and remove patches. You can still do that, but it's harder now.
