Any luck with trapping? B42
Been trying to find small tracks for rabbits, squirrels, birds whatever. Could not find any.

Trapping yes, tracking no. I'm still unsure if I should wander in the wood in foraging mod to find poop. My Foraging is at 10 and I still haven't seen a wild poop.

For what animal? Did you have to see them to trap?

I traped 2 grown rabbits and one baby with the usual B41 technic: cage trap + cabbages. They are trapped alive.
No I did not need to see them, I put the traps in the wood at random, at a respectable distance for the trap to work.

Tips for trapping, if it still works like build 41.

75 tiles <--- that's the MINIMUM distance the trap has to be from the player and any player made structure. Stay away from them, and do not go near them or they wont catch anything.

Set your traps in the evening and check them in the morning. This gives the trap an overnight cycle to catch something, but also minimizes the time the trap is deployed and therefore the chance that the trap will break.

Set the traps in the forest or deep forest biome. You can check this by using the "investigate area" and hovering your mouse in the graphic. This gives you the best chances of catching rabbit or squirrel.

I recommend using carrots or cabbages (I guess lettuce now also). Carrots have the best chance to catch rabbit, but one carrot can only bait 2 traps. Cabbage is the second best bait for rabbit, and one cabbage can bait 4 traps.

Make sure your bait is fresh and not frozen when you bait your traps. Some say that it can still be frozen, however I have not thoroughly tested it. You cannot use stale or rotten, it just wont work.

Use wire traps if your character knows how. If/when the trap breaks it will drop a spool of wire and you can use that to remake the trap and only lose time, not mats. Wire traps are also the best type of trap you can use for rabbit and squirrel (as of B41).

Take a knife with you in the morning to check the traps. Butcher the critter on the spot so you have less to carry back. NOTE: This may have changed wildly in B42 since there is much more to harvest than simply meat. Try it out for yourself.

In b42 i've oddly enough found rabbits and they let me just walk up and kill them. Dunno if they're a farm animal or not

I did it just by counting.

I don't know yet, I expect we'll need a gun.

I have about a dozen of them living in my sheep pen. They'll let me walk right up to them, right click and select kill animal.
I mean...if I can breed rabbits...why the hell would I even bother with trapping?

damn thats crazy good. i had the same thought irl during an apocalypse situation id just breed rabbits since thats what theyre known for right? apparently its bad to survive just solely on rabbit meat due to protein poisoning. Thankfully we dont have to worry about these things in zomboid.

They were in a pen with cows oddly enough. Yes I just selected kill/butcher and my character walked up to them

Breeding rabbits would require more food no?

Nah, the rabbits will graze off the field. All you do is supply water I guess. I dunno, the trough still had water in it.
