Melee/Gun hit detection in B42 is so much worse than B41.
I don't know if it is just me, but it feels like the hit detection is way worse in the B42 UNSTABLE build. I have the highlight accessibility feature on and have had so many instances where the multi-hit function just doesn't work, melee hits just do not register, as well as just phantom hits through zombies I clearly should have hit. It is really frustrating. The same thing happens with the shove.

I haven't had these issues in B41. I don't know why it is worse here.

Haven't tried multihit yet, but single target seems to work just fine on my end. Doesn't feel any different.

Though I do notice that character animation can be jittery for whatever reason now. It happens to me when I'm trying to do a 180 turn while crouching most of the time.
it's literraly unstable version of the game and you've been warned, besides melee and gun detection seems fine for me.
Haven't had an issue with Multi hit, works just fine for me. Maybe turn on melee targeting outline.

Shooting took a bit of getting used to but I got the hang of it. There are UI settings that make it a lil better, look up Retanaru's video on YT for the settings. Only complaint is how close you have to be to get a guaranteed hit, which at that distance I might as well use melee anyways.

Also UNSTABLE BUILD

Not only hit detection but while I did some playing with nearly identical settings to what I had in 41 I got bit, but I have the timer from 0-3 days so I went as long as I could lol after being within the time it took to turn I got bit substantially more and I was being pretty careful and my mode is set to builder modified slightly cuz im still learning ropes and I still got bit like 15 times 🤣 I played quite a bit of 41 and never got bit and played roughly similar in 41 but probably less cautious cuz I didn't have to worry about pure pitch black, and I was newer.
Personally I really liked the new firearms mechanics.

My only serious gripe is that aiming at grounded targets is extremely awkward.
B42 aiming leaves a lot to be desired. With level 10 aiming, and the cursor on their nog 3 ft away with a shotgun i shouldn't be shooting as foot to the left. B41 aiming was superior, in my opinion. and with pistols when i do manage to hit it takes 3 rounds before PZ dude can actually nail a head shot, which is super unrealistic especially with a police, hunter, or military background.

Maybe turn on melee targeting outline.

They have that on already, the original post mentions it specifically. I also play with it on and have frequently seen the highlighted zombie(s) just not get hit.

I personally disable the option for melee swings to slow you down because of this, helps prevent getting eaten because zeds that should have been killed instead catch up with you while the swing that said it would hit them didn't, but slowed you down so they got you.
I have this too, lost 3 characters because one killing blow.

Last 2 times the hit did not register and got bitten or, as with my last character, immediately a laceration in the neck. I never had this in previous builds.

10 minutes ago a zombie was standing next to a stair-railing, a perfect hit with a paddle just missed and got a laceration and died in 20 seconds. Boom, everything gone.

No mistakes, just being carefull and I was just fighting only one zombie.

Im ffing frustrated, im not playing this game for a few months anymore. It's too much, im rage-quitting. Indeed, i'm unloading frustation here.

Love unstables and love the new features and testing but this inconsistency's are just too much. Had a whole setup ready to look for a nice base location, then died because of this. Not even getting a chance to try new features in a peaceful location

I've had three weird hitbox experiences last week.

First one was me living about a week in-game by a transformer building thing by the road, the ones with fence and gate, I didn't live in it but I wanted to but I didn't have any welding stuff to get in. So, over that week I was driving cars, hitting zombies, honking, both kinds, and being generally very loud.

Anyway, I finally got the stuff and I removed the gate, and then the door. But for some reason I can't remember, I didn't enter the small building, instead I sat down and increased the game speed to fast forward about 30 minutes in-game.

Then I stood up and entered, and I almost had a heart attack as a zombie in a corner lunged at me, and just to be clear, when I rested I was watching the doorway the whole time and not only didn't I hear a zombie, see a zombie, or turn away from the open door. But even so, there it was, a zombie biting me three times because I couldn't hit it. One reason due to panic (the real life kind) but also because it seemed to be just in the wrong direction making my character wanting to hit the weird transformer boxes instead of the zombie.

When I finally killed the zombie I'd taken more damage than about 300 hours of real-life time in the game.

Now, the second time was when I was in a garage and opened a storage room and a zombie attacked, this time I knew it was there but when I swung my bat at it, I heard a sound like I was hitting a fence.

There was a fence of course, but that fence was on the other side of a wall, about 2, if not 3 squares away from me. That hit caused all the zombies in the whole world to b-line toward me.

Lastly, the third time was when I entered one of those small shacks by a trailer home. There was again a zombie inside and I knew it, but as I never get used to the jumpscare sound (I so want the jumpscare noise gone and removed!) I jerked my mouse all over and clicked randomly in hope that I would push away the zombie while my heart stopped doing a drum solo.

What I saw was that I was lucky in pushing the zombie, throught the corner wall. So, thankfully, I had time to calm down from major heart attack as the zombie had to navigate around the shack to enter it again.

Oh, and is it just me, but are windows being hit and destroyed even when not being anywhere close to them when swinging your weapon? I once hit toward a zombie as I entered a 4x4 or so square room but I swung too quick and missed the zombie as it hadn't closed in yet, but what I did hit, was the window behind said zombie which was as far away from me as opposite walls can be from where you enter from? And, ofcourse, once again, the window on said wall shattered and caused the whole apocalypse to race toward me. >:I

I'm so, sooo happy that I 1. have infection set to off, and 2. backup my save from time to time just for these bugs! >:D

Nah man, it's a you problem, I have 900k hours in the game, the game is perfect, I never had any problems like that, skill issue, I'm a badass and a navy seal, my mom says I'm cute, I disregard your perspective and criticism, all your real personal experiences with the game are not bugs but skill issues.

(Am I doing it right, inflated ego plebs? Someone was gonna make a response like this anyway, considering the pattern of responses in this thread lol)

You can turn off jumpscare sound in settings. Windows can have hit registration for the length of a tile (the little square you see when pressing go to). Try using highlight feature from settings to understand when you can hit zeds, it really helps. Combat in this game takes time to get used to, so feel free to ask for advices, people around here generally tend to respond positevely to any requests
To be honest, the gun aiming system is way better in version 42 then it ever was in version 41; where even with a Level 8 in aiming; you'd somehow miss point blank shots, WITH A SHOTGUN, which had the best aim of all the guns in Version 41. This made guns, combined with their multitude of other problems; completely unappealing.

In Version 42, I can actually hit Zombies with a Pistol I start the game with. It's still not recommended early on without a car, since it turns a 2 Zombie fight into a 20 Zombie fight, but at least I can hit my shots consistently; with 2 exceptions.

Shotguns are now next to useless in Version 42. While they were the best in version 41, they now have horrible accuracy, as the aiming system used for it is horribly off centre, making you need to aim way out of position to even come close to hitting Zombies. The other, is grounded Zombies; in many instances, I tend to find my character just completely freezing up and refusing to shoot at downed Zombies. This is extremely annoying, as downed Zombies typically only take 1 bullet to kill, while if they get back up, they can sometimes take 5 more.
Guys, the devs made clear a long time ago that multi hit is not a supported feature, its an option that will always be buggy to use if you choose to enable it.

It being triggered by mods, like sprinters, most commonly is a classic example of how a buggy optional feature, combined with a mod, compounds and expands the hype around a non-issue.

Because there are mods to help cover those using this feature. Things like cure mods, and even resurrection mods, so if your modded game using an optional feature only employed by the hack happy is killing you too much, and you dont like restarting use a mod to solve your issue.

Personally I dont use multi hit as its a complete fantasy game setting, and I think this so called bug should be embraced as a feature of the optional system by the Devs as a way to balance out the OP ability to hit multiple targets at once.
To me the most infuriating part is when you want to finish off a zombie under your feet, but the character shoves the air because there's another zombie approaching.

I didn't know you can turn off the jumpscare sound, how can I have missed it?!
Thank you for probably saving a life, my heart can't handle much more if I experience what I wrote each week! :P

I've never used a command like "go to," I don't think, so I can't say if that has anything to do with it? If you're not talking about the pick up, place, rotate, etc, furniture thing where your character moves to what's being picked up? Something which never works for me as the character just moves closer to the object and then does nothing and trying again without moving using the WASD keys causes a bar to appear which is filled up in something like 1 microsecond. With no result afterward happening.:P

And I don't have an issue of hitting zombies…a lot. I just wanted to detail that I don't think it was a multihit issue with hitting more than one thing as I didn't even hit the zombie closer to me, but somehow hit the window behind the sombie which was like twice the distance from me than the zombie. I tried the highlight but I dislike it because it makes my eyes focus on it and distracting me when I shouldn't be distracted, i.e., trying to survive ninja-zombie in corner! ;P

And thanks for the help offer. I don't think there's anything I need help with…other than making me not restarting my game, again, because I felt that one tiny setting I made was a bad choice. :I
