B42 Weight gain issue
So my dude is a nurse and is subsisting off of a few cooked eggs per day at the moment while keeping calories below 1500.
He is constantly exhausted from work and exercise and still gaining weight?
Seems excessive. Do I just lock him away somewhere and starve him until he loses the excess?

You need to keep calories between 0 and aprox1000 (varies +/- 100ish depending on nutrition levels)
However, negative calories will always make you lose weight.

You don't need to starve yourself or lock yourself in a room. Just satisfy hunger with low calorie foods like veggies and mushrooms. Mushrooms are weight loss Gods because they have a massive hunger buff but almost no calories,

Keep a bowl in your inventory and turn them into salads for easy cooking xp.

Eggs are only about 75 calories each so... you must be eating an awful lot of them....

Ok I guess you do have a status bar mod. Maybe you don't understand what you're looking at then? If you need to lose weight, you're calories need to be in the negative all the time.

Do you have the slow metabolism trait?
Because in b42 the issue seems to be that it's too difficult to gain weight rather than lose it, unless you're eating a whole stick of butter a day.

no but i do have out of shape and hearty appetite, not sure if those affect it.
honestly at this rate I am considering a new game because this dude is getting flabby no matter what i do
Crazy, I just went 2 days eating pork and pork chops from 4 pigs and I'm losing weight.

I find myself in a similar situation.

I have two runs going. One character immediately settled in one location and mainly eats stew made from whatever they find. No issues whatsoever with that character. If I want to gain weight I add fattening ingredients like butter or lard to the stew mix. If I want to maintain weight I leave out the fattening ingredients. No issues with weight in either direction and hunger is always satisfied. That strategy has never failed me.

I heard people playing b42 were having issues with food so I wanted try a different approach.

Character two started in West Point, grabbed a couple things, and headed west to Riverside on foot. Visited farms and a cabin for food and rest along the way. Of course I took a cooking pot with me and made stews since food was limited. Pasta, split peas, and lard in the mix. Small portions to satisfy hunger and limit weight loss. A couple turkeys were also pulled from a trailer and mixed with canned goods and turned into stew.

This character finally gets to Riverside after nearly two weeks out in the middle of nowhere. 80kg, healthy. Power was still on, food everywhere. No weight or hunger issues. Power goes out, now it's time to fish. Caught one fish. A catfish. Threw that meat in the pot. Ever since eating that the character is constantly hungry, constantly gaining weight to the point they are now overweight. I'd call that an unbalanced diet. To counter it I'll probably focus on foraging and making salads just to satisfy hunger. That fish can rot for all I care.

And I still don't understand what people are doing with their food in b42 that leads them to struggle keeping weight on.

Everyone needs to install the 'display bars' mod. and make sure the calorie meter is enabled at the very least, to better monitor how foods affect the calories. i've had no issues. calories go up when you mix in fats and oils, calories go down without. i always play with light eater and slow metabolism tho. so maybe those make it easy or something. ofcourse i've not run out of oils, lards or butters so far....so we'll see.

I don't use that mod, but I do use the nutritionist trait so I can see what's in my food, before I eat it. I don't use other traits that affect weight, metabolism and so on.

It's not all about calories. Hunger and caloric intake are separate. So in my examples, the fish is super high in calories, but doesn't satisfy hunger. So I need to eat more to satisfy hunger. If I only have fish, eating more to satisfy hunger also leads to excessive weight gain.

In the other example, the character can choose between two stews. Both satisfy hunger needs and calorie needs. The mix with added fats is just a supercharged version. Can easily keep my weight between 80 and 85 utilising several food items converted into two options.

I could also choose to simply eat the butter or lard. Both are high in calories, however, both on their own do not do much to satisfy hunger. I'd have the calories I need to gain weight, but I'd also be hungry again in a couple hours, and now I'm out of butter, so I'd have to eat more of the other foods, leading to shortages.

If you add 3000 calories worth of butter to 10000 calories worth of stew, you end up with more than 13000 calories. You're also able to satisfy more hunger needs. You can then split stew into 2 bowls or 4 bowls. The character can then eat fractions of each bowl if they choose. So that approach gives you full control over portion sizes as well. This can lead to needing less total food sources in order to satisfy both hunger and calorie needs. But without nutritionist trait it's hard to plan and micromanage a balanced diet like that.

It's also possible to satisfy hunger while taking in few calories which is why I'll be foraging and eating salad. That's an unbalanced diet going in the other direction leading to weight loss and is needed to counter the aforementioned unbalanced diet causing me to gain too much weight.

I use the display bars mod with calories, that is how I knew my calories were below 1500 each day as I wrote in the op

I heard that in B42 the threshold for weight gain is lower than in B41, now it's 1000 calories.

I'm subsisting on fish stir-fries, and eating just enough to satisfy my hunger will get my weight slightly negative, so I just eat a little extra occasionally to give it a bump.
EDIT: btw I eat foraged berries when I need to satisfy hunger but on a diet

Try walking and running around a lot more.

She's right. Hanging around your base and just taking care of things makes it real easy to maintain weight. Walking around looting and fighting burns calories like crazy.

it makes no sense for calories to be in the negative to lose weight but assuming the calories bar wants to be at 0 and anything extra is viewed as excess calories then I shall try that.
Counter intuitive but I can deal with it. ty

Dude, read the OP again, exercise and exertion has already been checked off the list.
idk why folks comment on something without reading it first it's kinda tedious tbh.
I appreciate your effort to help tho but please spare me the needless notifications lol

Walking and running consumes a lot of calories. More than exercising. And exertion has nothing to do with calorie consumption.
