Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Day One / Week One should be in vanilla PZ
Before I start I just wanted to say, HUGE thank you to Slayer (the creator of those two mods) for not only re-imagining this game, but also for making a very realistic and fun experience to this already great time! You're awesome :)

I wanted to make a positive rant and I didn't know where else to put this. I had a falling out from this game due to boredom and a lack of friends to really hunker down and play this with- and these mods really made me love this game all over again!

With the current market for co-op zombie survival sims, the only real competitor is 7 Days to Die- however I believe these mods becoming vanilla would completely crush any kind of competition- as Fun Pimps have been saying time and time again that they'll add Bandit NPC's for the past 7 YEARS. If these mods were just in the game- PZ would dominate the genre, crush any other competitors, and make the game more rejuvenated for newer players.

I always disliked the idea of you just waking up and being the only survivor(s) just on a whim- it made the very beginning of the game kind of bland to me personally. With these mods, I believe this game benefits tremendously as it shows an accurate depiction of how the world would respond to an apocalypse. Peacekeeping, military involvement, bombings, etc are amazing and honestly terrifying!

The other thing that always bored me about this game was that the locations would be either abandoned or filled with zombies- not much in real time dynamic. However, with these two mods there are chances of people actively trying to survive in the same mess you're in- and some are absolutely insane and will try to kill you. Me personally, it reminds me so much of the Fallout series where you could enter buildings, but a lot of the times there were raiders already occupying the place. This I believe should be another must-have for this game- as the main trailer boasts about being "the ultimate zombie survival RP"

Not only is the game more immersive with these mods, but it also feels so much more realistic. I like the fact that I need to check window vantages now, I like the fact that buildings of high infrastructure in the cities have been completely destroyed by the military- it's all just so realistic!

Please Indie Stone, make these mods canon and a part of PZ without having to mod. They are so well made and deserve to be vanilla.

No coz:
1. Is broken unbalanced unfun just a meme mod
2. Something is already planned for PZ we just don't exactly know what with NPC update
it gets old after playing the mod and beating it a couple times. With build 42 multiplayer likely going to take a whole entire year to release, I'd expect zomboid to have working NPC's and stuff in the vanilla game in like 9 years.

Answers for your "No" statements.

1. With developer support and proper funding, the mod would not be broken and would be polished. Unfun is a subjective and terrible counter to my statements above. The "meme mod" doesn't discredit the idea and design. You should look at their scenarios that are built ingame- as they are just as/if not more ridiculous than these mods.

2. Remember my whole statement with 7 Days to Die? Yeah that was "planned by developers" and left for almost a decade. If someone has the foundations then it would be already established (a great example of this would be the OldSchool Runescape texture revamp, that was originally a mod that then got implemented into the game.)

You don't "beat" this game, so I have no idea what you're on about there.

I do agree with you on the B42 release, however why would it take so long for NPC's when the literal foundations are already in place with these mods? I could see this easily coming out alongside B42.
Is this the Bandit and other mods?

If so. No.

Are you new to the games deveopment? NPC's were in the vanilla game in 2012 but removed by the devs before Steam early access release because they weren't happy with them. Working NPC mods have been a thing since well over a decade. The devs usually take their time, it may take several years for a full build to release. B42 multiplayer probably in a year or so, B42 going stable maybe in 2 years. B43 which is planned to have the first version of NPC's (that won't be fully fleshed out yet and buggy) will probably be on unstable branch in about 3-4 years from now. Add another 1 year for multiplayer to be added to that and then another 2 years to go into stable branch and that's just for the first type of NPC's to be added, let alone fully functioning NPC system. Don't expect this to be happening within the next 5 years or so.

Imo devs should focus on fixing existing features before adding even more broken features

Adding npc's to a game like this is hard. Current mods do not count any of the resources (need sleep, water, food etc.) for npc's or it counts for them and because they are stupid die in a few days. If you try to simulate the enitre map so there are npc factions all around it living and developing as you play you get 1fps. Making this into reality is hard so give them time. Look at the update notes of npc mods. All of them have statements like closed this need for npcs because of that and this. Making everything work with the current mechanics is hard. this is not any other game where npcs will be things that stay some place and trade with you. We are talking about an alive environment. Please be patient. I know they are slow but that is the reason this game is really good.

But one cannot simply fix existing features without first adding features that need fixing.

As for that mod, after watching bits of pieces of a few playthroughs, it's not something I'd be interested in. Didn't even have to try it once. They did it. Saw everything it has to offer. Done deal. On rails. Same show each time.

NPC's are the main feature for build 43, so I imagine there'll be something kind of similar though less janky than Week One mod. It probably wont be the pandemonium that Week One is though, where it just spawns a bunch of stormtroopers around your character. It'll be interesting to see how Indiestone handles money though, since we know they've also been working on new systems for machinery, with one of the highlights having been vending machines.

Also thinking about it, we need cigarette vending machines, as they weren't decommissioned in the US until 2010

I don't support mods.

But humans will be humans.
