Sledge hammer

I have played 425 hours of this game and I have NEVER seen a sledge hammer. I have gone to a great deal of the industry locations, garages, sheds, auto stores. I have cleared THREE towns and nothing. Was it removed from the game?

It wasn't removed. Once, I was incredibly lucky and found a sledgehammer right at the very beginning of the game (gas station in Echo Creek).

usually I find it where there's construction work on roads, laying next to a manhole.

Look in dumpsters or trash cans near hardware stores and construction sites. Every sledge I've found in B42 has been in the trash!

They were always very rare but B42 seems to have made them even more so. I've found all of my sledgehammers either in that road scene where one spawns near a sewer, or in a survivor house with other good loot.

I also happened to develop a mod that drastically increases sledgehammer spawns in tool stores if you're interested. Another Steam user asked for such a mod and it was an easy enough thing to throw together.

Road event is most common place i have found them but also in the firehouse sometimes , though i have not seen one at all in b42 but i havent gone out of my way to try and find one either.

Is this one monster save you are playing on or multiple playthroughs. I would look for the road event though seems most common spot for it .

I found a van that was for a building company. The driver and the other seat were already showing promise....but...the back of the van was bugged:) When i opened it the trunk did not appear so no way to loot:P Could hear the animation to open the door just nothing showed up:D

For many in-game months since B42 launched in december I never found a sledgehammer. Until yesterday. In a storage unit at Westpoint. But by then I was so frustrated that I already spawned me one. Meh, at least I know that sledgehammers CAN be found in B42.

Yes, there are no "insert item needed" when you need that item. Only after it is no longer needed or the goal post has shifted will "inert item needed" be found. Then and only then will you suddenly find abundant amounts of "insert item needed" under every leaf turned over. It is the cruel unforgiving side of RNG.

Sometimes too, items just pop up at the perfect time, like magic.

I have not tried B42 yet. ..And I have to say they are rare, but when you need one its almost impossible to find one, even in the place/locations others here have mentioned in B41. If you do find one keep it in a safe place because it will come in handy.
So if B42 worth it, yet?

Come to think of it I have been searching for a very long time for a portable camping cooler that I had in a previous game. You know the blue and white plastic containers you keep ice and beer and food in? I have drove from Rosewood to Louisville and still none to be found.

Hunting and camping or other outdoor shops might have it. But it is very random can find it even in normal houses.
Though the best way to get it is to find it via an outdoors event encounter.
Campers, fishers or hunting group. They have one.

If you play b42, you'll have more luck finding one by driving along any stretch of road. The utility worker road event have a pretty decent chance of spawning a sledgehammer near the manhole. I found 2 at once on my most recent run.

Also, you only need sledgehammer if you want to do home renovation. Everything else it can do have workarounds, so it's not as important as you think.

3 months in game to find a sledge.... now if you had spent some of that time leveling secondary skills you could have made it by now. couldnt do that without a mod in b41
