B42 Can you craft Steel Rods?
Does anyone know if this is possible? I have been able to find them around the world but not as many as I would like to. This led me down the new crafting rabbit hole thinking I could craft them. I have an advanced forge, furnance, and kiln. To my knowledge I have all the required tools as well for metal working however I cannot see an option to craft a steel rod in any of the workstations. The wiki says I should be able to craft it from the advanced forge but I dont see an option for it. Has anyone been able to craft them or is it not possible to craft them yet?

Steel Rod. Ah I didnt know steel was not finished yet
most things aren't finished yet. There are a ton of recipes still waiting to be added afaik. Bows are also getting added later I think

You probably need a schematic for that

I dont know if it helps but destroying burnt out cars has got me some steel bars.

Rods are a pretty common warehouse find. There's probably something you can scrap for rods. Maybe metal fences or car wrecks.

Not a single crafting recipe atm is using rods. it's either iron or steel bars.

Steel rods are used for building, metal doorframes, wallframes, stairs, and fences all require steel rods. Also ironically, the "Metal Bars" barricade takes steel rods...*

*Edit: According to the wiki, it still takes rods, I haven't actually confirmed the barricade recipe in B42, but the others I have

I'm looking for rods for the bus mod.
Having needed more myself recently, factories and dismantling wrecks are where it's at for rods.

This feels like it should be correct, but it isn't. One of the finest scrap metal weapons, the Block Bludgeon, has its handle crafted from one of several options including the Steel Rod, Steel Rod Half, Iron Rod, and Iron Rod Half.

I have built every tier of forge and furnace and found no way to actually craft a Steel Rod, nor a way to saw one in half. We know it isn't a case of skill magazines because there isn't even a way to hide unlearned recipes in the crafting menu anymore, they removed that for some baffling reason.

By chance I have acquired a total of five steel rods over the entirety of my 200+ hour B42 run, one of which was sticking out of a zombie (likely a 1 in 1000 chance of this) and the other four of which were recovered from disassembling outdoor picnic benches, with my Carpentry skill 9 likely being a boon to the fact that I got anything other than a few planks and nails.

This really sucks because the Block Bludgeon is amazing, assuming you're specialized in Long Blunt and fit enough to handle the exertion drain. It's basically a combat-only sledgehammer, but at 4.0 encumber it weighs less than an actual sledge. Being a Short Blunt enjoyer myself, I can only imagine how amazing a Short Block Bludgeon will be, but since there is no way to saw Steel Rods in half, and I have seen absolutely ZERO Steel Rod Half OR Iron Rod Half in my entire experience of B42, I can only deduce it will be a long time before us shorty shorts will get our top tier craftable.

Go to the huge cattle market, you can destroy gates in pens for a huge amount of iron and steel bars and pipes.

What is the difference between rod and bar anyway? Why there's 2 of them?

agreed, seems like that's redundant. hopefully the devs either collapse the two into the same item, or clarify the difference.

https://shop.machinemfg.com/round-bar-vs-rod-whats-the-difference
tldr: you typically want a round bar for machining, unless making something of cheap chinese basement factory quality

Old 41 construction metal bars was renamed to steel rods, while newer 42 steel/iron bars are used for items crafting.
