lvl 3 cooking to use pancake mix? Really?

I'm a new player and I understand that this game wants to be realistic and hard, but I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to understand why you need to lvl up some "skills" to be able to do the most basic things, shouldn't the pancake mix have instructions printed on the packaging? How does someone need to learn how to build wooden boxes, I can understand doors and more complex things but wooden boxes? Really?
It would be nice if with the content getting released the devs got rid of some of this grinding.

Carp and cook are fairly straight forward to level up almost free by catching the 6am and 12pm shows on TV for the first 3-4 days. Along with finding level one books for both you can boost your exp further.
You're not wrong about the balance of things in the game though.

You would be surprised how many people can mess up pancakes with the instructions right there in front of them. Just saying.

In 2025 many people don't have a clue about anything. Cannot cook even basic stuff,change a lightbulb,inflate a tire etc. Those are level 0s. IRL you probably are lvl 1 or 2 already in many skills without knowing it. Maybe you can replace a wheel,fix a faulty lamp,cook some tasty dish etc...
It makes sense to me.

The truth is some of requirements in this game are completly bonkers for no reason, like needing a engineering degree to put a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kettle filled with concrete on a stick to make a mallet.

Good point. But people back then had a skill (now forgotten), called "common sense for the most part. Even if ignorant in a task,they would have tried and do said task thinking about how to solve priblems and find ways. This is why i like B42's mechanic of learning recepies by doing.
