Tailoring lvl 1, thread
Could you help me, how do I train tailoring? I need thread to practice it, but to craft one, I need skill level 1. How do I get to it? Back in build 41, it was quite easy to cut some clothing into rags, and there was a chance to get a thread. However, in build 42.1, it looks like this option is gone."

Dismantling doesn't grant xp anymore for almost every skills in B42 (except electricity and, I would assume, mechanic). I think there is some kind of wooden sandales that are easy to craft : you can always spam craft them until you reach lvl 1. Also a newspaper hat (dunno if it gives xp though). Go in the tailoring crafting and figure what you can do

You need to find a sewing kit

Sewing kits almost always come with 1 needle and at least 1 full spool of thread. There used to be a chance to get thread while ripping clothes, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Now you have to use the cloth to make your own thread once you can. There are a few new recipes that can help you get to level 1 that don't need thread I believe. I started at 1 due to a trait so didn't need to myself though.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Aside from the method above, making sacks from burlap piece also works. Though you will have to sacrifice some thread for it.

Is Tailoring actually worth leveling?

At level 8 you can permanently repair holes in most clothes. At any level you can apply patches over clothes to reinforce them. How much it increases protection by depends on your tailoring skill. Thats just the stuff from B41.

It's a luxury skill.

There are also some recipes to tailor makeshift clothes and bags from burlap pieces now. Useless if you play urban playthroughs, but seems to be intended for wilderness only or years later playthrough.

Have they changed scissor condition loss with the update? On 42.0.2 it felt a scissor would break after shortening like 5 pants.
