Project Zomboid

just a little knapping feedback
i like these new skills, i'm not in the "skill bloat! this sucks!" camp. but i do wish knapping was even half as easy to level as carving is.

just more recipes that feed into each other. like how carving can turn a plank into 12 small handles which can be turned into spoons/forks/pipes.

as a suggestion, maybe at knapping 2, you can use a hammer and a chisel to turn a "stone" into a "shaped stone" or something. and then maybe 2 of those stones make the "large stone maul head" and 1 of those stones can make a "stone mace" or something.

also i think having the "long stone blade" at knapping 6 is a little too high. it's an important unlock for short blade players, but comes WAY later than similarly important unlocks for other weapon users. axe players get stone scythes and crude stone axes at knapping 2/maintenance 1 repsectively. long blunt players get long handles at carving 3. spears players need spear 6 to unlock "fire hardened spear" *but* they can fire harden spears at any level if they take wilderness knowledge. but short blade players need to get a LOT of knapping xp to unlock their "optimal" improvised weapon (the level 1 stone knife is not that good). feel like it should be knapping 4 or 5 instead of 6.

i can "fix" this myself, obviously, by increasing the xp multiplier specifically for knapping. my feedback is more for vanilla multiplayer servers for when they come out. looking forward to seeing the rest of crafting being fleshed out as 42 is updated! thank you.

Yeah you are very easily stranded in knapping, especially without a Knapping book, a pickaxe or sledge, or copious amounts of foraged flint. For a skill you'd likely be aiming to use outside of civilization it feels like a really hard limiter.
You can Knap a Large Stone into 10 stones instead of using the Mason recipe to do the same thing. You only need a Stone to do it

yup. i made this post before that was added. i hope they keep adding knapping recipes still. because while it is definitely easier to start knapping (because you can use a stone for almost every knapping recipe now), there still isn't an easily renewable "farm" like carving has. i can get hundreds of carving xp out of a single tree. meanwhile it'll take me an hour or two, maybe even several hours, to get the equivalent knapping xp.

I'm only just now getting into knapping, anything I should know about scarcity of resources for it? Sadly it feels a bit overwhelming, but I usually try to find the things I need.

If I wanted to make an axe, I need to make a hammer and then use that to knap flint into flint flake to make man-made axe?
