B42: How do you deal with lots of zombies without molotovs?
Can't even get a foothold in Ekron on day 60.
Also failed to get into the shooting range near Echo Creek, there are HUNDREDS of zombies...

Killing it in small groups. Thousand of zeds could be easy dealt with by ingame month.

Little by little in different sessions. I had to adapt my playstyle in 42. Personally i like it better.

build firecamp. It only needs 3 stones in 42.
Aside from campfire, you can pick the zombies off much easier if you use the default random speed. You can use both melee and firearm without any worry because both are as loud now. Or at least close enough. Fence stomping also still works really well. So you just shuffle between stomping, bashing, and shooting to manage muscle strain and stamina.
Jump into a car and run them down before the motor gives in. Repeat with ~5 more cars. This cleaned up Guns Unlimited near Echo creek in about 4 days to a looting state. Just dont go up to the actual Gun range, way to difficult terrain for cars.

This is how I'm doing Ekron. I started in Echo Creek and am currently based at the gas station. While I did get two generators, I didn't find a manual. I also didn't find a single axe, so decided it was off to EKron.

So I ignored the community center, drove north and then back east past the fire station to the outskirts. Then cleared my way house by house and set up a temporary safe house close to the fire station. Cleared the fire station to find only a single hand axe (no fire axes). Lots of other loot but that's not why I went there. Damn RNG.

Then I basically cleared the road toward the rail crossing that is not blocked by the train, moving safe houses as necessary. Finally went south to the commercial district and spent days just clearing the streets before looting anything. Yeah I didn't find a generator manual at the bookstore either and with the addition of all the new paperbacks there are less skill books in bookstores as well.

So basically everything on the west side of the tracks is easily lootable for me now. I probably have somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of Ekron looted. Not sure if I'll eventually do the community center. There is a reason I drove by it as it looks like there are more zombies there than in remainder of the town combined.

Yeah, I used a truck to get to Ekron - and now the only option seems to be wrecking the truck to kill as many zeds as possible.

But endgame options seem really limited atm - the only reasonable weapons are cheesy campfires or a dozen cars? Huh. It seems pipebombs are still in the game, but I haven't found the recipe yet.

In vanilla at least pipebombs are kind of a wasted effort, the blast barely does anything and it only starts a couple small fires. Molotovs were way better.

Assuming it has not changed since last I tried it in vanilla, which admittedly has been a while.
campfires and yelling.

Sounds like a good time to me. I'll get some marshmallows if you bring the chocolate.

it's funny to me to call campfires cheesy. IRL it would be a completely valid and used method of dealing with herds.

Well sure but dealing with a whole horde with a couple campfires IS cheesy. A few zombies walking over it would probably disperse it enough to put it out. You'd need a more robust fire source.

You don't understand how incredibly flammable a dehydrated human body is.
I think campfire is a valid strat until they add more options to tackle hordes. You can't expect players to holler their way around POI every time.

Sure it might set a few on fire before they put it out, but I think you are not understanding how easy it is for a large group of people to put a regular campfire out by knocking fuel around and trampling over it.

Molotovs or a flamethrower would be far more effective than just making a campfire.
