Which means it should probably be fixed or at least adjusted, because it's kind of stupid. Rats are tiny; unless you are zoomed in at 25%, you probably won't even be able to see them.
The Devs praise realism; but I'm pretty sure if you ran over a rat in real life, you wouldn't even notice; and it certainly wouldn't make your engine blow up and all your tires fall off.
Exactly this; whenever people complain about mechanics that make no sense; tons of people scream 'realism, reaism.' I won't doubt that a Vehicle would probably suffer issues from hitting things constantly; but a Truck is clearly going to win a fight against a body every time.
However; the amount of damage makes it feel like the cars in Project Zomboid are made out of the cheapest plastic money can buy. 4 Zombies hit, and your hood is gone... 5 more and your Engine is shot. If you want to use your Truck as a battering ram, I do agree there should be a penalty; and there is... and no, it's not the engine/hood damage.
The risk, is while the initial hit is good; if you hit a large mass of Zombies, your car will slow and eventually stop. IF you stop in the middle of a hoard; they will surround your vehicle; and now you will be unable to move. This leaves you stuck, while they slowly smash your windows, and rip you to shreds. THIS is why ramming Zombies is risky; the fact that your cars have the durability of a tin can, just makes them only viable as an escape option or hauling loot.
When you drive over zombie corpses you also have the chance to have your hood damaged. When the car "bumps" it has a chance to damage your tires, the suspension, breaks and every other part randomly:D
So nothing really new:)
And hail Cobra:P
Yep, I just lost my windscreen hunting rabbits with my car.
Moral of story : next time some nutbag decides to go on a vehicular rampage throw rats at them until their car explodes.
*puts a fence post in the middle of the road, behind a street light*
That'll take them from 60 to stop in under 0.1 seconds
But 100 half rotten zombies apparently damage one enough to fall completely off your vehicle.
Makes zero sense in a game that focuses on "realism".
At the end of the day, The game has never been about realism.. It's about a pseudorealism that is pretty close to reality in comparison to most other games, but that ultimately makes concessions towards un-reality for sake of a more balanced game or, in some cases, a game at all. Zombies, after all, are quite un-real.
If it was completely real, The only zombies youd run into is people on their morning commute. If it were completely fake, you'd have unicorns dragons and magic (and more)
Having ANY easily accessible vehicle with or without an upgrade be a rolling tank that can kill infinite zombies just doesn't make for a good game balance.
