Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Does it get better/easier?
Got the game yesterday, 4.5 hours in, longest survival was nearly 3 days with 40 kills but it seems to be that the deaths are pretty much the same reasons

I'll be looting my way through areas and then I'll find a bunch of zombies, they see me despite me trying to crouch round the fences or hedges, running from them seems to be impossible and eventually I'll get stuck as I can't take the time to kill them all or lose them

3 attempts so far and all 3 ended virtually the same :/

You can survive for ingame years if you do it right.
There're some good youtube videos on how to lose a horde.
Watch them if you feel like you're stuck.
u'll get better thats how everyone starts.

try to not fight too much and only drag like 1 or 4 zombies. more than that and u slowly walk away or run if theres runners.

also make sure u have an escape option like a car or windows that are open and without glass and similar.

Yeah. It does get better. Its one of those games where you may not survive better each time, but as time goes on you'll fall into common pitfalls less and less, learn how Z's work, learn what and where is a good time to fight and run... Most of my runs tend to last months these days, as opposed to days when i started.
yup, it gets easier buddy. This game is known to have a huge learning curve for new players, and each step towards surviving a few more days makes you want to play it even more.
It’s normal and it does get a lot easier as you learn. Enjoy the struggle while it lasts.

Experiment with sandbox settings if you feel too frustrated.

Welcome to the community.

Don't worry about dying, especially when you're still getting used to the combat.
Remember that you can outpace the default shamblers indefinitely by just walking away, no need to run.

Go slowly and if you're trying to loot a building - especially a smaller one like a house - try wandering around the perimeter first and clearing out any zeds you find; that way you can make sure there's not a horde stood in the back garden ready to break in and trap you as soon as they hear you, and it'll also give you a chance to look inside through windows and doors more.

Sneaking and crouching behind fences and hedges doesn't work in the current build, the next big update will aim to fix that, but for now zombies will see you very quickly pretty much no matter what you do.

For bigger groups try pulling a few at a time by walking just within vision range until you aggro some, then have them follow you away from the horde and take them out. rinse and repeat.

If you do ever have more zombies chasing you than you can handle, break vision using trees or houses. walk through a house you've already cleared and out the other side; you should lose them, or most of them at least.

This game has an extremely, extremely sharp learning curve. So when you are brand new, this is the hardest the game will ever be.

But once you learn the game it becomes exceptionally easy. Once you get over that learning curve and understand all the core mechanics, you will never die again unless you royally ♥♥♥♥ up.

I've made it nearly 2 months in about 100 hours, but I can tell you if you've made it 3 days in 5 hours, you're doing better than me and most other players. Lol keep at it, you'll be fine. ♥️

It gets easier as anything you keep on doing for a long time. You learn with your mistakes and pushes on. My longest run is 21 days so far.

Try spawning in the more rural towns.
As far as b41 goes, there's a point where you only end up dying because of stupid and preventable mistakes that you make yourself, usually by becoming a bit lazy. Treat each run as a learning experience and look what you can take out of them. In principle you can pretty much kill entire hordes with a starting character without ever getting hit. And if you can survive for months, you can pretty much survive indefinitely if you keep your wits up.

That being said, b42 changes things quite a bit and makes the early game much harder / slower, so you'll have adjust to that.

the mistake first time players make is by focusing on the skills. which all reset when you die. when you are new you die a lot... so instead focus on exploring the towns and getting used to the combat. learn how far your sounds reach when you yell or not. learn how far a car engine sound reaches. learn how far a car horn sound reaches.

learning how to 'ditch' zombies is the best skill to have because it lets you escape. then you begin to realize it can be easy to stay alive from them but later learn that you are going to starve to death.

Feel free to start brand new games so you have power and can explore the different TV broadcasts.

explore the world though the eyes of a lot of failed survivors first.
It gets better and the longer you survive the better it gets

My method was see zombie = bonk zombie, it didn't fail... until it did 😂

I legit forgot you could yell with Q, am i meant to be yelling to bait them then sneaking away? in terms of skills I've not really been bothered with those I've been focusing on finding a weapon that doesn't hit like a noodle LOOKING AT YOU SCREWDRIVER, baseball bat did me well until my guy panicked, fell over, dropped the bat, and i couldnt go back 😭

try a custom game and lower the settings to make things easier. ie zombie count, spawn rates, increased types of loot, weaker more fragile zombies, shamblers only, easier vehicle use.. etc..until you learn the mechanics and crafting/XP tree of the game. Do some exploration and have a look around to see how great the game can be..once you become more experienced and have a better understanding , start another game with harder setting.
You will find the game alot less frustrating and quickly become addicted and see the full potential and play ability this game has for literally hundreds of hours.
