Project Zomboid

What Happened with Build 42?
I read like a year ago this was supposed to be a NPC update and was kinda excited when I saw the update in the launcher so I dove in.
There's only chickens and some other animals but no NPCs, factions or quests? Huh?

The new parts of the map are pretty cool which is nice. I appreciate all the new decorations in the few places I've explored. I was told there is a new skyscraper which sounds great.

I see there's like 3 new weird crafting skills and a bunch of new items associated with it which ties into the animals. Sadly, after consulting a wiki (because nothing is really adequately explained in-game for how long leveling any of these will take), almost nothing looks useful and the loot tables have been diluted to accompany this change in itemization. Useful items like skillbooks for example are very difficult to come by now even though I'm using the same apoc settings as before. Many of my friends with 500+ hours have said to basically ignore the system. If that's the case, what's the point of crafting and spending dev time on it?

Muscle strain feels horrible. I guess they wanted to nerf melee combat and give support for guns but I don't really see the point in this. Why not just melee alone, a system most people seemed to actually enjoy, and buff the guns like several B41 mods had? Even after doing so its clear stamina was drastically nerfed where melee attacks now require far less before becoming exhausted. I am once again told to alter the system in the options. But why do I have to, and why bother wasting dev time on it then? Isn't the point of larger updates to add things players want to enjoy, not add in new tickboxes to uncheck because the content or gameplay changes aren't enjoyable?

Why can't I dismantle anything for XP? Some here have said for multiplayer reasons, that makes sense, but from the steam numbers and server tracker numbers it seems like a small (<=5%) of the playerbase plays on public servers. So why have it default instead of it as an option for server owners to use? Its annoying finding this out mid-playthrough after time was already devoted to a run. This seems easy to change.

Very disappointed overall outside of the new map locations. So what the hell happened?

Because it was not supposed to be an NPC update.
You can check on TIS-s site, or among the many many thursdoids the roadmap, where it was stated that B42 is not going to be an NPC update.
I read B43 might re-introduce NPCs. It feels like XP gain is currently geared towards multiplayer, where players can specialize their characters and not worry about leveling every skill(in a co-op session, anyway). Solo play, I find 5x XP gain sufficient(pretend there is a total of 5 survivors) to gain skills steadily and without blazing up the mountain. XP for dismantling is by default disabled, though it can be adjusted.

I do not follow these because I am a rather casual player. That's extremely disappointing, I've looked at what you suggested now and there seems to be no timeline or mention of adding any mid or late-game progression/content in either the "next" b42 update (???) or in b43.
as per roadmap

B43: NPC stage 1
B44: intermediate update
B45: NPC stage 2
B46: intermediate update
B47: NPC stage 3
B48: Polish update

So you're looking at another 6 years there

You're not playing the game right.

I'm glad they're finally getting around to taking all the remaining enjoyment out of fighting zombies - b43 will have buttons for manual breathing and the qwop keys will control your characters arms and legs. It's not supposed to be fun, it's meant to be realistic!

If you do not follow, then why do you make claims what this update was supposed to be?
What did you even base your claim that this was supposed to be an NPC update.

If i have an issue with a game usually i check first the forum or the browser, in 95% of the time it answers my questions. If not then i search a bit more, and only then will i open a thread.

About the other parts of your posts, well they have been debated in detail (strain, bloated loot table etc.)
But to be frank it is an unstable version, so many things are likely to change, many bugs to be fixed and so on. I found the current version of the game quite tedious so i am playing other games.

If you only decided to read about it a year ago, that would explain a lot.

Dude there's a bunch of mid-game content wtf are you talking about lol

I guess I've never reached "end-game" yet but from what I've seen it's not too bad either, I bet you complain all the time about 99% of games.
not this update. its for crafting and adding a bunch of mechanics (like basements). npc's come in like 43 or 44. maybe not since we get these update for free

Betting 2 cents that B48 will come out before GTA6 :presidente:

i play on survivor and had absolutly no problems with mustle strain after the 60% patch anymore. feels right now. no problems with fighting as well.
Fighting ztombies is more easy as in b41 i think. they seem to die a lot faster.
love the new items and crafting and cows and chickööööns.. <3
npc i rly dont need. give me a pet dog and im happy^^
overall i dont ewant to go back to b41. not even for the mods.

btw can anyone tell me what is the best way to report a bug ?
i want to fill up a lighter with some lighter gas. char did the animation but afterwards the lighter was not full but the refill bottle had less content.

Never was intended to be NPC update. Animals are NPCs. just not human NPCS.
Stop reading ♥♥♥♥ that random players write and taking it as factual information.

Yes, though many new decorative objects cannot be moved or disassembled, including crafting stations. Otherwise, makes the world look much less artificial.

Wiki didn't even had time to be updated with accurate information. You do realize people has to get that information before they can publish it. But yeah, making your own Sledge or Wood Axe when you cannot find one in the town is pretty f***ing useful.

It was too easy to stuff a bookcase full of skillbooks to begin with. Also, find better friends.

It is not intended to nerf melee combat in favor or ranged. It is supposed to nerf unskilled melee when you can use heavy weapons to relentlessly slaughter zeds just because you're in shape. Once you level up your combat skills or have at least 1 skill point in it, its not really all that relevant. With 4+ combat skill, muscle strain doesnt even comes into picture anymore.

Because you appear to have problems enjoying the game. Other players (like me) enjoy the challenge, so they adjust and adapt o the change and elevated difficulty, but if that isn't something you deem worthwhile, then you adjust the settings to your preference.

You can dismantle anything for XP until skill level 3. After that you have to make stuff to get better. Dismantling stuff into industrial supremacy was retarded.

Nothing. We got an early access to an update to test it. Don't like it = don't play it.

Well we got basements that no one will explore because everything is pitch dark now.
