How do I start potttery, blacksmithing, or bone collecting?
I can't figure out how to get into these skills. I have the books but I don't have the material. How do I begin doing these skills?

Well, visit the lake house at 10100 8222 - it has a full fledged smithy to figure it out.

Lol... I live there.

As far as how to start blacksmithing without being at the lakehouse... first you need to make a primitive forge and furnace (Build menu). Pretty sure most everything you need you can find/forage in the wild. You'll need tools to use it, and you'll see which ones when you try, but some of those can be easily made too.

Once you've outgrown the primitive setup, just move out to the lakehouse NW of Muld. It'll be a fight to take it, but it will be way easier than building your own advanced forge and furnace

Oh yah... Pottery? Just getting into that myself. I think we need to make a Kiln and get a lot of clay.

A cow + butcher hook = bones. And it gives access to pretty sick crafting (70\80 gloves and 100\100 neck).

you can split open a chicken's head for a skull to carve after you butcher the chicken, you can carve wooden handles to level carving. blacksmithing i havent really gotten into, it needs alot of metal. pottery, have fun foraging >.< random clay pickups during foraging only unless you use a mod.
how do i come across a cow? i am at the 28th of October with only pigs and hens. am i too late?
is there another way to get bones?

You can trap rabbits and butcher them for bone, meat and brains.
