New Carpentry is nonsensical and ruins the game
So they removed gaining carpentry XP from dismantling to prevent players in MP servers from just dismantling everything in sight to gain XP, leaving entire towns with zero furniture. Cool, makes sense.
So why the ♥♥♥♥ does attempting to simply MOVE basic furniture, like a bedside table, require CARPENTRY?? I have level 0 carpentry which means I can't move a bedside table????????? How the ♥♥♥♥ does that make any sense? I can't seem to find a way to gain carpentry either without first getting an axe to chop down trees. So now I can't move furniture around a house unless I first get an axe, chop down an ungodly number of frees, repeatedly build generic items like wooden toolboxes, and after making a hundred of them I can finally move a bedside table. What??

You know you can get planks from logs right? And sawing off logs to get planks also happen to give carpentry exp.
You get 1xp for sawing planks from logs. You also can't get logs unless you have an axe to chop down trees, or you are lucky enough to find one out in the wilderness, but even then you're only going to find one every so often. Do you think this is good design or something? Lmao.
You need eletronics 3 to plug an eletric oven into a power outlet... This is as insane as having carpentry to move a table! :-P
You do have a point, and I do feel the situation is absurd, but in case you missed it, Arma already tried to tell you you can get logs without an axe now from fallen trees in the forest. Hoping this helps.

Atleast with gas ovens there may be a reason.
So many of the skill requirements feels arbitrary and like the team is just trying to add as many skill requirements for various actions because they know that have 10 levels of all skills means after a certain point certain skills have nothing.

It's true. You can, however, turn it back on in sandbox.

How? Where?

I agree that disabling exp gain as default is pretty stupid, since as I said above, it's detrimental for challenge modes. But the workarounds aren't impossible to do either. Leveling maintenance isn't as difficult as it was, because filing blunt/dull bladed items give a lot of maintenance exp. So you can get a stone axe fairly quickly. And getting planks from logs is more reliable than disassembling furniture anyway. The only reason to disassemble furniture is for nails.

Also, there's still the 2nd half of b42 that's waiting to drop. There could be some improvements by then. They could remove the breakage chance when lifting some furniture completely. Just like what they did with crates.

Sandbox, Character, Maximum Dismantling XP Level. Simply change the 0 to a 10 and you're good to go.

I hope this will help, my friend.

How do you actually get a stone axe? I can't be bothered to open the game again rn, but I did spend a few hours running around in the woods looking for flint but couldn't find any. The nearest source of water is too far away from where my character is for me to want to visit just in some vein hope that it might only spawn flint near water.
All of this could be resolved if you can just move furniture without needing skill points in carpentry. Honestly, even if the argument is that you need carpentry because ♥♥♥♥ might be nailed down, why would you need to have any skill in carpentry to remove a nail to begin with? And that doesn't account for objects that wouldn't be nailed down anyway. It truly is the definition of nonsensical, and from a gameplay perspective it's unnecessarily frustrating. The other solution would be to make it easier to obtain 2 levels in carpentry, without the need to acquire an axe. Why not just let players get planks by dismantling something? I'm pretty sure even an idiot with a saw, hammer, and screwdriver could figure out a way to get a flat piece of wood from a wardrobe or a chest of draws. You wouldn't even need a tool to get a plank of wood from draws, most of the time you can just kick them hard enough and you can dislodge the planks apart, I know this from experience.

Kek, I didn't know this. I don't think the game needs to aim for absolute realism, but if they're going through the effort of letting you craft things using a kiln and crucible, they can make it so plugging in something to an outlet doesn't require a bachelors in electrical engineering.
I found a makeshift chair blocking a shelf I wanted to loot.
I needed a hammer to move the chair...

Imagine buying an desk in a store and not being able to take it home because you are not an carpenter, neither they can deliver it to you because they don't have a competent carpenter around to move it either.
Maybe you could pay or give something for an carpenter to move it for you. Oh nevermind, we got animals instead of npcs, i don't think my two rats and one chicken have enough carpentry to move the desk for me. :)

This is same level of stupidity the game is running right now, and it's beyond crazy that people defend this ♥♥♥♥.
For me, i honestly hoping this kinda of thing will be removed/fixed when b42 is actually released, but i wouldn't be surprised if not.

You get flint nodules the same way you can get logs: by harvesting them off the ground. A single patch usually yields 4-6 flints. And they spawn fairly often on the ground, anywhere offroad. Even on a curb. Tree branches can be found by foraging. Rags are aplenty.

The only roadblock for crafting stone axe is leveling maintenance. And I think skill mags too? But the magazine, if there's any, is easier to find than skill books. So it shouldn't be that much of an issue even on default rarity setting.

All that's left is to wait for the 2nd half. I really hope they do consider removing skill requirement to lift wooden furniture. At the very least, the small ones. I think it makes sense that you need some knowledge to properly disassemble beds and wardrobes if you want to move them. But needing a skill to lift a small cabinet without breaking them to pieces is pretty stupid ngl. Same goes with the wall shelves.

One of those wonderful threads where the OP has a rant, gets told how to fix it using sandbox by multiple people, and then proceeds to spend more time then it would take them to fix the issue arguing with the people who gave up their time to tell them how to fix the issue.

If we're talking "realism" here there's no way the OP would be the sole survivor of a zombie apocalypse. It's miraculous he's a survivor in our world without any zombies.

Was OP actually asking for solutions or did you just interpret that. To me, it looks like they are talking about a stupid ass game feature
