spikes on armour
Not sure I'd like spikes on protective layers if I had to defend myself against zeds in real life.
I mean, the last thing you'd want is some zed impaling itself on your armour - all the while trying to bite you - while you try to get away.
Seems kinda counter-productive :)

edit:
If anything it should be as smooth as possible, so they have a harder time grabbing you.

Yea but you would not look cool like a real post apocalypse survivor with spiked armor.

Exactly. Road Warrior look for the Road Warrior pop.
Looking cool is subjective, you know?
Take tanks for example: when they first appeared they were silly metal boxes with guns until the concept had proven itself.
The same with knights.
Ever wondered what people thought of them at the time when they first conceived the idea?

Spikes may work in fights against other survivors but against zombies the situation changes.
If zombies are in the picture you just don't want anything on your armour that could help them latch onto you.
Smooth, difficult to grab armour will survive the test of time while others get eaten.
I find them tacky and cheesy too, but I also think they're nonsensical because they would add a lot of weight, and metal armor is already quite heavy.
