Finding better backpacks in B42?
Greetings!

I was wondering if anyone can clarify why I can only find school backpacks and duffelbags in the new build? I spawned in Echo Creek on Survivor to learn the new area and even though I cleared the large shooting range (with camping supplies) and half of Ekron I am still stuck with a duffelbag. If the spawns are much rarer to slow down progression I totally understand but I cant find any clarification. Any advice is appreciated.

Yeah I hardly get good backpack from container loot, the times I managed to get decent ones are from zombies, the survivalist zombies with the big backpack that can hold a sleeping bag attached, and the hydration bag which can hold 1L of water from the sporty looking zombies. They seem to spawn randomly, I don't notice any connection with the spawn location (unlike police, firemen etc). BTW I like how the fanny packs provide much better weight reduction in this build.

Oh yeah I did get one hydration pack but no big backpacks yet. And yeah the fanny pack is great now.

I find hiking bag by chance in a two-story house in Rosewood. Though I only found 2 when I used to find at least 3 big hiking bags and several regular hiking bags. If you are lucky, you can find large backpack from survivor zombie event.
I haven't found a single bigger backpack either. Even the school bags are very rare. I have found a few duffel bags and two golf bags, which are essentially the same as a duffel bag.
quite a few among the zombies more than i have often ever seen in b41 quite common.
sometimes a bit easier to grab them among overwhelming numbers aswell.
but in terms of inside cupboards and stuff i have found less.

There are backpacks common in road events aswell.

duffel bags can be found in ambulances and police cars to (rescue bag and police bag, I guess)
big/hiking bag on closets and "survival" zombies

the bigger ones I only found in military checkpoint in louisville, but can't take that...

I have cleared almost all of Riverside and haven't found a single hiking bag anywhere, not in closets or any containers and not on zombies. I have seen a few survivalist zombies but they didn't have backpacks of any kind on them.

I found a couple of military backpacks in the pawnshop (yep) of Brandenburg it is written outside the building "loans cash jewelay" There are some military clothes and i found a canteen too.
The spawns are more specific now. If you want to find military bags now your best bet is go to the military surplus stores. Check camp ground offices and camping supply stores for the hiking bags.

It's an RNG thing. I found a backpack on a zombie on the main street in riverside. I was making do with a golfbag I took from the sporting goods store for a few days before that find. quite glad for the upgrade really as I didn't want zombies thinking I liked golf.
Thank you all for your replies! I guess I just got unlucky and will have to explore more.

Of course it's an RNG thing. The point is that maybe the RNG should be tuned a bit if so many people are having trouble finding a backpack.
Found military bag in camping shop .
If you find a tightly packed horde somewhere rural with no other zombies around it is pretty much 100% chance to find a survivor zombie in there. You go driving anywhere rural there is a huge chance to find survivors. I have found dozens this way. Typically they have hiking bags or more uncommonly military bags.

The easiest to find are probably duffel bags. As was already mentioned the emergency vehicles and police vehicles spawn them frequently and are some of the most common random road events you'll come across.

Hiking and big hiking bags seem to be the rarest in my experience, they'll still load in wardrobes in houses but those loot pools are now very bloated with a bunch of other stuff as well. But yeah, camp grounds and camping stores does increase the chances of finding them.

Honestly I haven't gotten to a point comfortable enough yet to tackle military surplus stores, so no idea how common they spawn in containers, but I run into the big clumps of random event zombies out on the roads nearly as often as I do ambulances, so if my vehicle is in good condition I'll just keep running them all over until I get me a military bag, so I usually find one before I get a bag of the hiking variety.

Wondering how the new bags we can craft now hold up though
