Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

new player here.
I created a character in survival mode, ran around the house, killed 3 zombies, looted a branch and went back inside to drink water and find bandages cuz I got a scratch on my arm or something then quit the game cuz I was bored.

I see a lot of people playing what is keeping you here?
What do you guys do in this?

Most play with friends online when it's available (makes the game a lot more enjoyable), the rest of us are masochists doing near impossible play throughs.

I start a character with zero strength and zero fitness, with the appearance of zombies multiplied by 16 (the max) and the loot set to insanely rare. Loot, kill zombies, try to survive over the months/years until the moment when I might get eaten. My goal is to completely clean the map, which would represent a few million zombies. I am currently at 26,000 in 4 months and it continues, we don't give up.

Dayum, that's hard.
Rack up kill count.
Collect all Spiffo paraphernalia.
Build a stronghold in every single town in the game.
Hoard every single item that's not nailed down.
Max out every single skill.
Travel the world.
Once all said and done, drink bleach. :bleach::deadrat:
I enjoy the challenge and see how long i can last. Death eventually comes for all of our characters, be it hubris, unforseen suprises, or just pure bad luck.
Aside from that, this game gives me just about anything i could want from a zombie game, with mechanics that are suffiently deep for me instead of shallow additions that you dont even bother to interact with.

The game isnt PERFECT, but for me at least, im hard pressed to find a zombie game that is suffient for me to stay comming back like i am with zomboid.
And of course, it gets better (or worse kek) with friends/multiplayer. If multiplayer sounds more like your jam, theres plenty of discords out there that host servers. Find one thats right for you, and remember; This is how you died.

I'm missing the whole FPS action aspect of aiming for and exploding heads at all cost that usually comes from zombie games.

But after reading you guy's comments I'm starting to understand that it's a completely different vibe and mostly(it seems) for the better.

Yeah the game's vibe is very different from all other zombie games. This is a slow game that requires planning, patience, and proper execution. The combat can be fun with friends after you're armed because of the high stakes, but generally the gratification comes from outsmarting the hordes and watching your plans come to fruition.

Surviving really. The main draw of this and other hard survival games is seeing how long you can survive for, and pushing the limits of what you can survive.

First the zombies seem overwhelming, then a joke. Then you turn on sprinters.
Yeah, the vibe is definitely different for PZ. The devs were pretty heavily inspired by Romero style zombie movies, as well as Max Brooks's "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z" (Book, not the horrible movie of the same name). The original idea behind it is: All those talks you have had with buddies about what you would do in a real zombie apocalypse? Put your plan into practice and see how it pans out.... As you stated, it isn't the 'blow off zombie heads' and run around like a super hero style game. It's an approximation of an almost-believable zombie outbreak. That said, however, you can mess with sandbox settings (and absolutely use mods) to turn PZ into a zombie slaughter simulator with a bad-ass gunslinging killer. The options are what make PZ so amazing.

Convinced the only reason they called it that was to draw some attention to the movie.
They are completely different, lmao.

For me and how easily games are accessible on platforms like steam its easy to find a game for a great story and to bypass the time with but I mainly look for games with very high replay value, pz gives me what I am looking for in terms of a zombie survival game, no hand holding, brutality, and sandbox. It really isnt for the faint of heart and if you have a hard time making goals for yourself you probably wont be able to get into it and that's completely fine.

I love just collecting things making a nice base , trying different sandbox settings, etc...been playing since 2014 and i always come back to this game. I am still trash at the game and im fine with that lol

Just role-play in many different scenarios...
