You are not bothered by the jagged edges for example? Or you think that's a good trade for 3D?
Yes it should technically mean this.
As the 3D textures have a lot of Jagged Edges, to me it can look worse on large items. If a modder came along and added higher res, or if the 3D textures were improved I would prefer 3D.
Why I like the look of the older 2D textures is because they look crisper and have less jagged edges. For cars and human/zombie models its different as they are "moving". The engine you are working with and the "old" look of the 3D textures makes me prefer 2D. In general 3D can be really nice but in this case it makes the games general graphics look older.
For example, Don't starve Together is all 2D, and it looks great and its timeless, BUT some of their older textures are extremely low res that they look really bad compared to their newer textures. If they had made all their textures in 3D but used "old" looking textures then I would probable prefer the 2D.
Having said all this. I do understand the benefits of 3D textures, as they are can make objects have more freedom. And interacting with these items as well. Perhaps I will get used to it.
Wait what? I heard the chairs were going 3D as well, and that would allow sitting on them. I must have heard wrong, my bad then.
Its possible the game might run smoother, but isn't it quicker making 2D sprites instead of 3D models? I don't know. Only the devs artists know this.
not necessarily.
it depends on the amount of details for both.
plus remember that if you go 2D, you need to draw the items multiple times at different angles (especially character and gear/weapons)
while you only need 1 3D model and it can be rendered from any angle.
I did not think about that. Makes sense.
