I can not find a book on how to use generators.

So if I can not find one, if I get my electrical skill up high enough will I be able to use one?

I am in rosewood, hit bookstore, school bunch of houses, still no luck, and I took lucky trait, I know power is going to go out soon, not the end of the world.


I just hate to see so much food go to waste.

Man, i feel you...

2+ monthes in with my most advanced character (Lucky too)
Ive looted every place i could think of,...libraries, schools, factories, gas stations, houses, garages, mailboxes...
Ive plenty of every other recipe book, all of them....not even counting XP books there

but...no 'how to use generators' book...and ive bumped book loot all the way from Extremelly Rare to Abondant

10+ generators (set to extremelly rare...)...but cant use them

So, 2+ monthes in, plenty generators...but no access to electricity...and no fuel...yep super fun...
And elctrical skill does nothing...Ive 4 or 5 now
I give me a week more...then i will cheat me one ;D

None of my other characters (much less advanced...) have found it either

Im starting to think this book cant drop in 41.53 or is way too rare compared to all other recipe books or drop only in very specific places...which ivent found

check every mailbox you can find. although the last one I found was just in a bookcase inside some random house. You just need the rng gods to smile on you and you'll find it

Eheh, ive checked every mailbox in the city, 70% of the houses, the library, the school, most shops, the nearby factory and warehouse, some farms and trailers around...
No F......g generator book...
Never had such a problem in previous versions...it was somewhat rare, but nothing special

It could be incredibly bad luck...but im more inclined to believe the new loot table has messed up something with this book loot chance

The problem is that without this book you have no electricity at all (no fridge / freezer) and no fuel...and there is no workaround at all, high electric skill doesnt help

I have started millions of new games while learning how to play... from my own experience I can tell it is truly just random. Sometimes I even found it day 1 in my own bookcase.

Same goes for all other stuff as well. For some reason almost every other Z is carrying a firearm in my current save. Never seen this happen before and it feels weird.

I've never toyed with the loot rarity or mods that could have an impact on this. It really is random.

OK thanks for answers, do not know about if new loot spawn makes any difference, or I am just unlucky but now bumping up skill will not help I need the book.

Once ages ago in Riverside, i hit every friggin hourse, even got into the bookstore(from behind and snuck in since huge horde was before the front) and not there....I was like damn...and then while i was searching through the farmhouses in the west...one of them had it in the garage..and the one beside it on a bookshelf was like...mad:D

Try the courthouse in Rosewood. Bunch of bookcases in there. Might have some trouble getting in though.

There are other places, like southern Riverside, the trailer park. Usually you can find one there. Riverside regarding generators is terrible there are like 8-12 garages/sheds alltogether in the whole city. And you can have one of them randomnesses where you have 0 in them in a normal apocalypse run. Of course the storage lot area in Southern Riverside will still have at least 3 (max 7 i saw) in the storage lots....but, transportation, more zeds, sledgehammer...etc. (However you can find most of them nearby so not really an issue.)
Also the farms west from Riverside are a good place to look for generators and the manual too. (Sometimes you can find it in Riverside bookstore, though on apocalpyse that might be tricky to get into, depending on your experience and knowledge of the game.)

Try all the mailboxes in March Ridge. I've always had good luck down there. That town might have better loot because you can't spawn there (or I'm making that up)

Nah you cant spawn there in vanila. However sending there new guys is not nice. That place has higher population and more in densitiy than WP:)

It's one of the items you can be really lucky with. You can legit spawn with it right next to you. Or you can end up searching the whole town and find none. I just end up always holding onto every electronic I can dismantle and do that when I get the books read for the extra xp but it usually never comes to that.

If you have an issue with it you could always restart and set those setting to make it be less rare. It usually seems to be every campaign that I end up missing at least once crucial item after searching half the town.

2 times for me:

One time I found a generator book in my mailbox. Died before I ever found a generator.

Another time, I had a line of generators at my base...but didn't find the book for about 2 months of survival.

Those were the days.
