Placement bug (with water related items)
I'm trying to place a washing machine in my new base, but I can't turn it on because it says "requires a water source". But the water hasn't shut off yet...

Is there anything I'm missing? All the guides show hooking up to rain collectors, but all my sinks and showers still show 'unlimited' water

Bump

Does anyone know how to set up a washing machine in a building that didn't previously have it (while both electricity and water are still on)?

You can't use 'city water' when plumbing a washing machine or a sink ; you have to use a rain collector as a water source. It is the only way as of now.

Unless it changed recently :

- Rain collector has to be on the above floor, and one square away (not directly above)
- you need a wrench in your inventory (not a pipe wrench)
- sink or machine needs to be considered 'indoors'

if all these requirements are met, the option to "plumb" will appear in the contextual menu when right clicking your sink or washing machine.

I know I've connected washing machines to the city water before. I installed them in a second floor motel room in Muld (the big motel with the central courtyard)

You need a wrench. Once you have one, right click on it and 'plumb' it. i moved a washing machine into my house and set it up that way.

Did this change in 41.53? I'm still running 41.50. You can absolutely hook up a washing machine to city water.

I'm running the latest version. I have a regular wrench equipped as primary, I'm right clicking on the washing machine and there's no option called "plumb". Just a red "turn on" indicating that there is no water source. :/

In the meantime, I have perfectly functional sinks and toilets surrounding the washing machine, with infinite water.

Here is a screenshot of what I see

Try a different room in the house? I set mine up in the living room.

I tried 3 different rooms but I will keep trying, as I can't find other solutions as yet

Sorry I couldn't help you. I don't know what the difference is.

Speaking of washing/drying machines though, do dryers actually dry stuff off? I moved a dryer right next to my washer and loaded it with soaked clothes and left them in there for a long time and nothing really happens.

It's okay, you tried. (:

And I've used dryers before. They do work, but very slowly. It's still faster than letting clothes dry on their own, but I think it would be better if they worked a little faster to really be worthwhile.

Because as it is, you can turn on your washing machine and go to sleep, and by the time you wake up, it will all be dry anyway.

I might actually have a bugged building. I've noticed that once I pick up and place sinks, I can no longer use them. I will keep testing this in other buildings.

I have heard that you currently cannot hook sinks back up after moving them, even with the water still on. I can only assume that the devs haven't programmed that functionality.

Okay. I tested some things out (and ruined my game in the process). I will post my findings in a new thread because there are a couple (almost game breaking) bugs and I don't want it to get drowned in this thread.
