Farming in doors?
Can plants still grow in doors? I created a grow area for plants that had a max watering limit and set some seeds to grow. Fully watered they had no sun and just died. Health went right to zero

"They had no sun"
How did you expect them to grow again?

I they used to before. So farming in doors is no longer a thing? Or do you have to have a light on?

I'm new to the game so I wasn't aware of the growing in doors thing but it does sound like an oversight that got fixed.

Never read anything about that in the most recent updates. Could've missed it, though.

I'd do some more testing. See if there needs to be an open ceiling, primarily.

You can build 2-3 story buildings. Simple add dirt to the top and create a skybox farm.

I mean, even without sunlight how were you going to water the crops without some kind of roof to collect the water from?

I will not believe anyone who says that vegetables in PZ cannot grow in winter or indoors.

I built it with a roof over them so that the plants that have a max water don't go over that amount.

Yeah I don't know either I almost always grow my crops in doors. But it's really weird. I wonder if I need to construct like an actual room for them to grow and the growth rate is determined on If they are outside (Which would be the no walls portion) but weren't getting any sun (Cloudy days as an example)

Either way it's weird. The crops next to them in the open sun do just fine

do you have any mods that change farming? for example 'Seasonal Farming 1.0'

You can. Done it inside an apartment, near a window, and on the upper patrol area of a prison tower. The latter is pretty funny, because you dump the soil on grates (drainage?), but it still works. You can even plant it inside the top of the prison tower, in the room of glass windows, and also grow it indoors there. :cherrypie:
Yeah I am running a number of mods. However the only one that MIGHT effect farming is Hydrocraft but I've never had an issue with it before. It's weird this has never happened to me before. Usually there is no issue growing in doors. At this point the only thing I think think of is: For some reason this is a glitch and growing plants "Outside" but with "No sunlight" makes them die as opposed to being "Indoors (With walls and a roof as opposed to just a roof and open air)" but with "No sunlight" Really threw me for a loop I guess I'll have to experiment

and what type of building you are planting in? i mean is it the one that you build yourself, or the one that was already on map?

One I built myself. In my last play through I had a similar indoor farm completely constructed from my own efforts. No pre-existing structure. The only thing that's different really is that there are no walls on this one just a roof

Interesting, I've never tried indoor farming.
I think I'll set up a spot in my garage with a generator and a light and try it out.

I just reached Christmas for the first time.
I also just harvested some strawberries growing in a gated section outdoors.
They're still growing as seedlings, and it's almost New Years day.

Update:

Yeah I can't grow things indoors. Either next to a window or next to a light. Or anything with a roof on it. Can anyone with Build 41 is having a similar issue? If not I'm going to chuck it up to some mod somewhere

@The early worm deserves the bird

there is no 'sunlight' stat for vanila crops, just tested it with cheat menu, the crops grow perfectly fine inside the house with out(and with) windiws (inside pre-existing, and self-built). Then i turned on mod 'Season farming' or something like that, and with that mod i had 'sunlight' stat and temperature etc. So basically you cant grow your crops probably coz of some mods you have, i dont use hydrocraft and you said you have one, so maybe it is the one that change farming from vanila.
