Minimap has disappeared
I have no idea how or when but my minimap has disappeared and I cannot toggle it back on. I play in three separate games - two local hosted on my own system, one local hosted on a friends' system and the minimap is just gone on all of them, and the toggle button doesn't do anything. I've tried the suggested tricks of changing the resolution and switching between windowed / borderless windowed / fullscreen modes.
I'm already a total noob when it comes to navigation, playing without a minimap is basically pointless, so any suggestions before I try an entire reinstall would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried hovering over the little map icon by the heart icon (left side of the screen) and tried turning it back on with that? I never use the minimap but I believe that's how it works.

Yep, tried this many times, as well as holding down "M" and clicking on the toggle minimap option there, neither give any kind of indication of them working/doing anything (no sound, and no minimap).

When starting a new game, using the 'Apocalypse' play style or any of the challenges turns the in-game mini map off by default (world map remains). The other two play styles ('Survivor' and 'Builder') have the in-game mini map turned on. In the 'Custom Sandbox' play style, you can turn the mini map on or off yourself in the 'Sandbox Options' under the 'In-game Map' setting.

I believe you have to go in your pz folder and delete some type of map file or something. Not totally sure, but I seen people saying this before.

All three of the games/worlds/saves (or whatever ya'll refer to them as) are in Sandbox mode, not Apocalypse mode, and the mini map had been working perfectly fine in at least two of them. I feel like maybe the mini map disappeared when I set up my latest local hosted save (to be a single player save for myself that I can set safe-houses in etc), cos I don't recall seeing the minimap since setting that up, it's just weird that it has also disappeared in saves where I used to have it available without any issues and without me having changed anything in terms of settings.

I'll look into this, the files are a bit complicated and weird, so reinstalling might end up being a safer option xD

Try resetting your game settings. Go to "C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid" and delete everything there except the "Saves" folder

This worked, thank you so much! I did make a backup prior to doing this (duh) and had to restore the "Server" folder as well in order to see the local host servers I'd made prior, but other than that, this was a really nice easy solution!
