Do Zomboids feel pain and/or get sad?

I like playing zombie games because they are fun, violent, and challenging.
My favorite one is Dying Light, because it has a great story line, but also because there are un-turned humans and semi-turned zombies that you can brutally chop in half as well.

The simulation aspect and modding community for this game are what attracted me here!
However, it doesn't seem like Zomboids are capable of feeling much pain or fear... which really leaves my sadistic urges dissatisfied.... :^(

Will there be NPC human survivors fighting the players in the future?

In the meantime, can somebody recommend mods that could fix this issue I'm having here?
I would be utmostly grateful for your advice! <3

I apologize I would not know about the base game quite having that! But - I do know there is a popular mod called "Lingering Whispers..." that I enjoy!

The mod adds a small percentage chance of zombies having a variety of text-phrases pop up over their head! I've seen some of them tell me to stop, or to even run away; and sometimes they will seem disoriented or confused in the words they choose for the text!

It even can be adjusted in the custom settings when making your world/game.. You can adjust the percentage of the time they say the phrases; and from what I've gathered people can even go into the actual game files to edit the phrases too if you'd wish to personalize it; although I haven't tried that since I like them the way they are already!

There is also an NPC mod that adds survivors and thieves 'n junk scattered around the map on the steam workshop. I have not really used it all too much though so I cannot speak for the quality, I'm sorry! I used it for a few hours and remembered having to shoot a guy trying to mug me which was cool though so I know you can fight other survivors in that mod at least!

The devs said that they were trying to give the game a Romero Zombie Movie feel, and Romero zombies show emotions. Hmm.
