Plumbing is borked b42.
B41. I can attach a sink to a counter. I can plumb the sink to the building pipes (I am setting this up in a premade house.) It is right next to the original sink which still works. The water is set to never go off. The original sink works. The new sink works. Great.

B42. Same exact house. Same exact set up. Water is on. Sink is plumbed. I can no longer interact with the sink. There is no option for interaction other than "Pick Up" and "Dismantle". The original house sink next to it works just fine. The game just no longer recognizes that the new sink exists.

I can go into DEBUG and look at the new sink and it is flagged as having water. Yet I cannot interact with the new sink at all. Same goes for a washer. Set up a new washer on the opposite side of a laundry room wall, plumbed the washer, cannot turn on as it says it has no water source. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Again. I have infini water so I do not need water collectors. Every other water using appliance including the toilets and tubs, all work just fine. Attaching NEW appliances to the same exact house (and any other house) just does not work. Even PICKING UP the original appliance, setting it back down in the same exact spot, plumbing it, completely breaks the appliances ability to function and can no longer be interacted with other than "Pick Up" menu and "Disassemble".

The Pick Up and Disassemble options being available means the game understands the objects are there but will not allow the items to function.

And yes, I did build a new doorway into the house kitchen, the house room functions as indoors and still the appliances will not work (the water appliances) the fridge works fine the freezer works fine the stove works fine as these are a different menu to set them up.

And also yes I have quit and restarted multiple time and also uninstalled mods, uninstalled and reininstalled the game nothing works.

Help.

I remember myself and another forum member having a similar issue. The "fix" was strange. Equip the pipe wrench in your hand (this is AFTER plumbing the sink). Now with the pipe wrench equipped try to use the sink normally. For us, it somehow made the sink start working. After that the sink continued to work normally even without the pipe wrench equipped.
Unequipped a full use pipe wrench, reequipped in primary, still no interaction available with both sink and washer refuses to turn on. The dryer works just fine. It is the double washer/dryer stack but I can only assume the regular washers are not being flagged as well.

In debug mode using the "Paint" option, setting up several new sinks in various rooms, none of them work despite the debug stating they are hooked up to water.

The right click option is just gone from the drop down because something somewhere in the code is not getting flagged properly.

This is a game breaking bug.

Time to go make a new post over in the bugs section. There are separate moderators (and studio staff) that look specifically at that subforum.
This is a game breaking bug.

Nah, clean water is one of the easiest necessities to come by. Plumbing makes it easier, but its not game breaking to not have plumbing working.
Same bug. I tried to move a bathtub—very bad idea. Now I can't use the bathtub anymore; it isn't recognized as one even though I connected the plumbing. It's frustrating...

Interesting as I pick up bathtubs and sinks and build an entirely new bathroom outside on the lawn... and everything works just fine. 6 sinks plumbed and one bathtub. I have come across only one problem... sometimes the 3x3 dont work and i use a 4x4 or bigger grid works every time. so if your bathroom in side the house is 3x3 or less it might not work when you reseat the sink.. just a thought. but like i said i never have a problem.. its just YOU.
"The water is set to never go off."

And just like that my 3500 hours of experience with successful plumbing will be of little assistance here, because I don't ♥♥♥♥ around with the sandbox settings and break everything. Like, are you trying to connect a player-moved fixture to the pre-shutoff plumbing grid?? In this WIP build where the devs have been putting ALL OF THEIR EFFORT into building/crafting systems that explicitly revolve around GOING OFF THE GRID?? That would be mistake number one my guy. Plumbing at the moment has nothing to do with connecting player-moved fixtures to the water grid, it connects a Rain Barrel to a water fixture. That's it. The water grid is supposed to disappear within 30 days.

If you're not talking about that, and you're actually trying to hook something up to a rain barrel that's directly one floor above it, I dunno what to tell you man, I do it every other week at this point. Make sure its only one story up maybe? Multi-story plumbing was the first thing to trip me up when plumbing was added back to B42 back in 42.4 or whatever it was. IIRC that's a B41 thing that DID NOT make it into B42 so don't rely on that either.

In B42 you can plumb a Rain Barrel down ONE FLOOR to a water fixture below it. That's it. No fixture-to-fixture plumbing, and no daisy-chaining, unless you want to screw around with dispensers or something, I don't recommend it.

As an aside, the devs want to do an actual fully fleshed-out piping system and everything. I'll link the dev blog below. Needless to say, none of that made it into B42, which literally launched without any plumbing at all, before they monkey-wrenched an incomplete facsimile of the B41 system back in. If we ever see it, it'll be years from now, maybe B43, who knows: https://projectzomboid.com/blog/news/2023/08/the-connection-is-made/
I cant recall the last time I did a consecutive demonstration of plumbing but here's my footage of when I plumbed my most recent base last week. Video links on Steam don't carry through the timestamp so I'll put them in a pinned comment so they're easier to follow:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZsI0E7ky2c
3:53:00 - Built rain barrel, yapped about relative placement
4:49:30 - Plumbed rain barrel to sink and used it (ignore my rambles about lights lol)
4:52:00 - Filling rain barrel with water (without rain because we aint got none)

This is disingenuous, no one's prevented from base buiding without plumbing, no one's game grinds to a halt.

Clean water is one of the easiest necessities to aquire as there is typically around 40L of clean water in every studio/1br home considering the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and toilet. If there is a bathtub there is another 100L. Build an amphora and you have a 300L container that holds enough water to last the better part of a year depending on how much you overheat yourself.

You don't even need a well. If you don't want to loot your water, you just need a metal container and a fire to boil it*. You can use the farm troughs lying around so you don't even need rain barrels. I usually just boil 60-80L in a couple metal buckets for the amphora before I bother working on rain barrels and plumbing.

Again, plumbing is a "nice to have" not a "gamebreaking" issue.

*or a plastic container and a microwave.

it's not disingenuous. it's literally 1 of 2 things you need to survive in this game, and its a broken portion of the only fun thing to do in this game past like, an hour of playing/

You don't even need a well. Just a few rain barrels and you'll have more than enough water.

Speak for yourself. I enjoy this game and get plenty out of it.
