Any reason to keep hood/trunk closed?
Does anyone know if it matters if you leave the hood or trunk open?

I’ve heard that items can fall out of the trunk if you don’t close it. Not sure if it may be due to the trunk taking damage and the carry capacity going down or what. I can’t say I’ve ever noticed losing anything by leaving it open.
I had items fall out recently. Once. I was driving along and then heard a huge loud clunk, not unlike a tire blowing out... but it was different. An item from my trunk (or trailer) was on the ground behind the vehicle.

I had never seen this behavior prior to build 41 final. This was Vanilla game.

So op, in vanilla game, yes items can "fall" out. I can not say if it was because the trunk was open or not... there is no visual yet for car parts open/close SO BE SAFE. Close the doors.

I don't know if an open hood or closed hood does more or less engine damage, but you CAN drive with it open or closed, there is no visual yet.

You can also drive away with your doors open and possibly get bit thinking you were safe. Again with no visual, you don't know if your door is open or closed. BE SAFE.

But I can't really answer for sure about what matters or not.

My art teacher in college always said to the students:
Student: "Tom, does it matter if..."
Professor: "Everything matters."
I think things can fall out if the trailer is damaged. Dont think the trunk being open matters.

There is a tooltip about items falling out but I've never seen this in 900 hours of play. I suspect maybe the open hood affects engine damage because sometimes the engine gets damaged before the hood breaks and sometimes it doesn't, but I haven't tested enough. How can a door be left open?

Same happened to me when I put my recently acquired Antique Oven in my trailer which I did not know was already damaged and in poor shape. I heard a clunk and seen the antique oven on the road behind me. I had to leave everything there and fetch another trailer I seen not to far away. What an effort to get that oven back home

I wonder if this feature is only working with trailers because I've driven around with a trunk at 0% after forcing my way through a horde and nothing fell out
I leave my trunk open all the time as default, never noticed anything missing. I am playing default umodded Apocalypse. I've never used a trailer though, so I'm leaning toward the hypothesis that it only happens to trailers.

You might be correct.
I have only seen it happen once in over 2,000 hours of game.
It might have been the trunk or trailer, I am not sure.
So I know it is a thing, but perhaps rare or very new to the code.

It is something when people rush to get in car and before the door actually closes, they animation cancel (immediately performing another timed action before the last one is complete)

Because there is no actual animation or door visual yet, people were getting bitten through what they thought was closed door.

This prompted the little green action bar "bandaid fix" to be placed over a characters head until proper animations are in place.

Right after I asked about this I experienced it in game, then googled and found people have been complaining about it for months. Completely baffled as to why the devs added this to stable branch with no animation to warn you, then just left it like that.
