There aren't enough good ones no. This game has potential in my honest opinion.
7 Days to Die,Day Z, Dead Island, The Dead Linger, Delver, Dont Starve, Eldritch, FTL:Faster then light, Pixel Piracy,Rust, Sir you are being hunted, State of Decay.
I have a few more games that could be considered survival but i think these are the closest to what project zomboid is
You ask what this game dose differently? Out of all those games PZ gives me the most intense/immersive experance and a real sense of survival. If your at all interested in the survival/rouge like/ hard core games then even in its current beta stage its one of the best out there, only to get better.
If this were Yahoo Answers, i would choose yours as the best.
Okay, what makes PZ different to the crowd?
Crafting system is very good for your basic survival, you can cook, make your own buidlings, frow food, fish.
It's very immersive, PZ pulls you in to such a degree because one silly mistake will end your game. You can't go around swinging your bat through crowds of zombies, actually you had better run away from that crowd of zombies.
From the begining of the game you need to start thinking about your long term plan, what resources do you need, how are you going to get them, where are you going to set up home.
Multiplayer!, have you always wondered if your friends had the guts to blow your brains our before you turn?, would they watch your back or run at the first sign of trouble?. These are things we need to know!
It's still kinda basic at the moment, but it has everything you really need. You can't drive, meet up with NPC's, craft crazy weapons and vehicles..but you couldn't really do that IRL unless you had spent previous time in those areas.
Are you sick of just survival games as a whole or are zombies maybe the problem here?
For me survival games are a relatively new game genre that has totally its right to exist.
No matter if you are lost on some island, roam the contryside having zombies or whatever to spice it up, it is the exploration, crafting of shelter and stuff alongside with adapting to a possible hazardous environment that makes it thrilling and fun playing, possibly with friends.
Haven't counted, but I think there are by far more games of nearly any other game genre than survival available.
Another question: When is it enough?
Maybe when someone does the ultimate survival game that pleases everybody with its pure perfection, only then the spell is broken and we can travel on seeking new pleasures, only then...
Many of the (zombie) survival games I know are still in development and none of them seem to fully please the peoples needs up to this point.
Sadly PZ does not please me how it is right now. Theres is much to be done to mend the "graphical disadvatage" of the game. Seen many bugs, though only one was gamebreaking when I played for a few hours.
So except you are a big fan of the genre of got money to burn, which i doubt that you are or got, dont buy the game now. Wait for a few months at least and then ask again in the forums or check their website and forums.
