As for zombies detecting you in deep woodland, have you ever been in deep woodland before? It's remarkably quiet, although I guess in a zombie apocalypse it'd be the cities that were quiet, with nature flourishing in the forests...so what do I know. I'd just assume if you stepped on a twig or hit a tree with an axe in the middle of a mostly dead forest, the sound would travel for quite some distance, right? That area is also a hotspot for zombies to spawn in as well, I believe. All along the path and the surrounding forests around the Blacksite itself, even on Urban distribution.
Blacksite lost a lot of its lustre when that Army Surplus store nearby and then Louisville got dropped and access to military loot and the big military backpacks became much easier. It also was no longer THE place to find PCs as you find them in every other office in Louisville now, not to mention the big makeshift army cordon on the way there lol. It's a nice place to settle in though, for what it's worth.
Perhaps it'll become a much more interesting place some day when NPCs get added, maybe it'll be "alive" at the start of an initial infection game and function like a well defended HQ for a potentially hostile or at least unwelcoming faction?
But uh yeah tl;dr it's not worth hitting up for loot anymore at the moment, just something for a new players bucket list.
I see it the same way.
It's a Government Lab that the Army Occupied. It's more of a challenge area like the Prison. Main loot is the army clothes and loot on the bodies
It'll probably be more interesting (and possibly lucrative) once basements are implemented. I mean, we've got that elevator near the back that goes nowhere, so presumably there's supposed to be some kind of secret bunker down below.
And maybe if they make it more possible to access. It doesn't matter how secret a base is, it still needs to be readily accessible for vehicles.
even with weapons/weapon mods its just better to loot the police station or the armory in the prison and you will end up with enough ammo for 3 playthroughs.
But since the stuff can be found everywhere, the reason for visiting this base is completely gone.
I'm trying to make my way in by cutting through the forest and building shelters along the way, but I'm going to have to turn back because there's a severe thunderstorm coming tomorrow.
I don't know exactly how close I am, but I'm either halfway or three quarters of the way.
On this push, I encountered lots of zombies. My left glove got ripped and my police vest took damage, both from "nope"ing the F out after being ambushed from multiple angles. From here on out, I'm going to jump to the pockets of open land and use them to fight. But it'll have to wait because I ran out of tents and will need door knobs and hinges to continue building shelters. Edit: damn, I actually don't need door knobs + hinges since I can just jump the wall.
This is where I'm at on the map: https://i.imgur.com/F3TGZNt.png
This is the second shelter I've built. https://i.imgur.com/veaNWfl.png
I know the loot isn't worth it, but I'm just doing it for the challenge.

But I planned just a slight bit poorly.
I didn't take enough water (or food) and I was faced with a decision to sleep or risk going for the water. I was "Parched," and the next moodle was health loss.
Sadly, an entrance to the Water Dispensers is not easily accessible. In fact, there's no good entrance to the area I built the stairs.
I think I would've survived without food, but I was already parched for a while.
My biggest mistake came when I sat by this wall to rest as my character was exhausted and could not even out walk the zombies.

I thought I had cleared the area out; lord knows I killed a crap ton of zombies. I even held the jog button as I got out of my sitting stance, but it was too late. I got two bites.
Not necessarily a bad thing if I could bandage up and get back to where I started, but I wasn't able to bandage with zombies chasing me as there were also on the other side of the fence for some reason.
The only thing of value that was lost was a Wood Axe.
Rip to my longest lasting character.

A place where people will say what the hell, all for this?
A place call waste of time.
A place call waste my gas.
Junk!!
Don't even have one military vehicle.
I cleared it out once, but it was for the challenge of doing so more than needing to do it.
