Advice on crafting?

I am not being successful at crafting. I have the needed ingredients but it does not light up as actionable on the crafting menu. Any advice as to what I am doing wrong? As an example pasta or rice. Bowls and food and cooking pot.

To cook pasta/rice you first need to fill up the pot with water than you can add the pasta/rice than you can add other ingredients into it.

All the recipes only light up in the crafting menu if you have all the necessary parts to make the item your trying to.

I.E. you want to make a Molotov but you don't have torn sheets, so the recipe in the menu won't be highlighted until you do.

Thank you all. I looked at this material and tried it out and now I have bowls of rice but they say uncooked. I am still confused. I went through the craft menu but the wiki for instance says things should be cooked for better value. The bowls of rice are -10 to happiness. What am I missing? Thanks

did you cook the rice? probly make a pot of rice, cook and then portion to a bowl? maybe just stick the bowl in the fire? I do not think ive ever made a bowl of rice in all my adventures in this game which is surprising.
