Project Zomboid

Wooden Spears
So I went scavenging on day one, and ended up getting lost down endless roads for miles on end. (I was stubborn and didnt want to turn around)...For two days I wandered around, until I found a set of train tracks. From here I just followed them for a while. I came to a dead end, and decided to make my way into the woods and head north.. I was bound to find something eventually. Along the way I foraged for berries and tried to manage my dwindeling food supply. Having a knife in my bag, I found I could craft spears from the branches.

I managed to find two zombies, so I decided to test out my spears on them. But I was sad to find out that I couldn't hurl them like javelins, or even thrust them at zombies. Instead, I swung the thin piece of wood like a baseball bat. I couldn't even kill a single zombie with one before it broke.

Will there be more player craftable ranged weapons in the future, such as bows, the aforementioned javelins, tomahawks, shurikens (scraps of sharpened metal) etc.? And will spears actually work like spears?

I really wish they would make spears a little better, because I can never kill over one zombie with one before it breaks. Plus they need to actually stab.

New animations, as well as weapons and attacks are all planned for future builds, just have to make do until then. :(

Yeah... If spears were that garbage in real life, they wouldn't have been the best weapon on the battlefield for hundreds of years.

I like using the stone axe as a weapon though, and useing spears for fishing.
EnigmaGrey is right, they aren't meant to be the best weapon, not even close.

Slightly sharpening it not that great, but fire hardening it would be nice to do.

was the best for a certain time era for neanderthalls for spear throwing but seem better off like the big rocks to smash like in Rust :)

Experience should play a part, as you craft a weapon over and over you should produce a better item. You would learn how to pick your raw materials, shape them better and even mod creations like Bauxite said. A simple, fire hardened spear could easily kill multiple targets before breaking.

But theres a lot of options to make spears since poor planks until high carbon steel
not just branches thats the point, we need more spears options.m48 spear its short and light for a sample, and the buch man knife can make the best spears, and both can be buyed now days...
