Improve the character controls to make it more comfortable in the game and less clunky as currently with keyboard keys.
Please improve the character control so that it would be easier and not make it even more difficult to survive in the zombie world - unless it's your intentional operation to make it even more difficult to play for the longest possible life in this post-apocalyptic world?

1.This is how you died
2.It's fine as it is
3.This is the way

you get used to it eventually, the only thing bad about the control is the ALT sprint and ALT attack, because both of those can screw you off just like when you accidentally press Q

This topic has come up before.
I noticed that people respond badly to this criticism, and jump to silly extremes to defend keeping things as they are.
But the OP isn't wrong that it could be slightly improved. The fact that it can be gotten used to does not mean it cannot be improved.
The difficult part is in getting specific about the problems and improvements.

People always say "improve the controls" but they never actually suggest a change- personally I have never had an issue with the controls, ever. People who are unaccustomed to isometric perspective or grounded, animation-based movement may perceive that the controls are unresponsive when in fact they are functioning as intended; hence the usual response: "you will get used to them".

The controls are fine, you just have to get used to them honestly. The big issue however is the UI which is being updated anyways I believe, that might be playing into the issues you're having. You could also try controller if you'd prefer that. I've played many hours with both and they both have benefits and downfalls.

Also you have to keep in mind your character has momentum, when you turn it takes time, it isn't instant.

Gotta say I'm in with the "The controls are fine, you just have to get used to them" crowd.

Like the others, I see a lot of complaints saying "Improve the controls" or "These controls suck"; But I've never actually seen anyone eloquate what is Wrong with the controls that need to be improved; Or why exactly they suck.

It's plain simple 8 way animation driven movement, WASD, What exactly is there to improve? It's animation driven and intentionally designed so your character feels weighty.

So for example, You're not supposed to be able to just 180 instantaneously at sprinting speed- You have to rotate around in a big C shape to complete a turn. This is 100% intentional.

You're not supposed to just stop on a dime from a sprint/run- It takes time to bleed that momentum out in reality, and it does in game too.

So.. Seriously, OP. What exactly are you expecting to 'Improve' that isn't going to make it unrealistic and unnatural?

Controls are perfect.

Controls for KB/M and GP can be remapped in settings.
Jackpot Mar 31, 2023 @ 7:59pm
Might I ask what exactly you find wrong with it?
Issues with walking, combat, etc.
Because a lot of the time, it's kinda intended to be what it is and you'll get over the controls quickly. Someone spoke more detail about why and such.

That's not to say people can't have different opinions about the controls, but it also means in some cases their wishes won't come true without a mod or a complete overhaul.

I don't want a "git gud" mentality in the community, unless it's a genuine case of people needing to learn by playing more, at which point is a "play more, and thrive even if things go wrong."

So for OP and those who like OP think controls should be 'improved', more elaboration on HOW would be nice and any specific problems.
Please, elaborate otherwise you'll get people telling you controls are fine and you'll get used to it as currently that seems to be mostly the case.

This is a recurring topic.
I'm accept the fact somebody can find controls uncomfortable, but heck...
Try to be a bit more constructive.
Tell your ideas, how they could should improve the controls?

Controls are perfect, just need to get used to them.

The only suggestions we tend to get are "make it like Diablo" -> all movement and aiming is moved to the mouse with a single button. Outside of accessibility support, that's probably not going to happen.

Make it like a "top down flash game" -> click heads, win. Probably not going to happen either, as it's antithetical to an RPG. Learn the system, just with the knowledge that isometric perspective makes judging distance a bit harder, so you'll need to some patience with it.

And "no more wasd" -> it's hard figuring out how to go up diagonally and some people aren't used to holding two keys at once to move -> change it to a different layout in options, I guess, otherwise you'll just have to work on it.

PZ also supports controllers, so if using the mouse to aim is your biggest obstacle, try a controller instead. It then basically plays like GTA, with one stick to move and one stick to look.

In the end, PZ requires holding one extra key (lctrl or rmb) compared to most FPSes (and even they sometimes bind iron sights to one mouse button and fire to another). So if you've ever played an FPS, you should probably be fine with PZ.

It's just very unlikely that after 11 years and millions of people we'll otherwise entirely overhaul the control scheme due to a dribble of complaints week-in, week-out. It works for the type of game PZ is, with the exception of aiming with guns (that does need to be changed.)
I'm intrigued by how the aiming system (with firearms) could be changed, if that was something planned in the future. Some players find the current system to be boring, because accuracy doesn't rely on their skill, but the character's. On the one hand, it makes sense to be the way it is right now as from an RPG perspective, so I don't think there could a different conception about the system. I guess RPGs are not for everyone.

I really like the game *because* the controls are `clunky` or whatever. :O

It's super comfortable and intuitive for me, though I had to change plenty of the default keys; but I do that before even starting most games I play.

Totally agree with BeetlePie.
The aiming system is good as it is.
Players should learm and accept the fact this is not an fps/tps game, where player skill should has any impact on characters aiming, but only skill lvl.

On the other hand shooting face to face to a zomb and still miss doesn't make too much sense. This is not XCOM
