How do I make a fishing rod???

So, I've looked at the crafting wiki, and I have a kitchen knife, 8 sturdy sticks, 2 full rolls of twine (at least I assume they're full; I haven't used any yet; maybe I should check that), paper clips and nails, all in my main inventory, and I've tried right-clicking on any of those things and I am not getting a "craft fishing rod" option. I also don't see an option for it in the new crafting UI. I am trying to do it when I am in my house. Maybe it won't let me unless I'm outside? I have tried so many things and I am going crazy! I just want to fish! Is anyone else having this problem?

*Ahhh*. Thank goodness there's a logical explanation! Thank you SO MUCH, EnigmaGrey! I can now be sane again! =D I have already found and read a fishing magazine that taught the recipe of a fishing net trap. I have looted lots of houses and searched through all the bookshelves, but I don't think I've ever found a fishing magazine that teaches how to make rods. I did find an electrician magazine. How rare are these magazines, and could reading "Fishing for beginners" do the trick, or do I have to find a magazine? Also, I started the game with the "angler" hobby so I already have one skill level in fishing... but that won't do it, huh? Wow, does this mean that if I wasn't a carpenter I wouldn't know how to build anything? That seems... kind of harsh. =/

I found the house by the lake, often has some recipes.

I would guess other places like that (other hunting lodges) would have them too, but never gotten around to checking the others... I just like the lake house as it is easy place to survive xD

Anyway, good luck. If all else you can always hit the hardware store, that has fishing gear


Further, I think (could be wrong) you can now use spear with fishing. I was able to use them for fishing, but caught nothing.
