So a house alarm sounds after the power is out?
Is this intended?

Yes. Batteries.

Alarms are equipped with backup batteries. Totally legit. Although it bothers me when zombies have broken in to houses without triggering the alarm.

Good point... we should be hearing alarms going off all over the neighborhood.

I've done some research online about battery-powered home alarm systems. Today's alarm systems can work off of battery power for only a few hours. When I encounterd the alarm in-game the power had been out for about a week. So I don't find the battery claim a realistic representation.

To put this in perspective, a computer UPS runs off a battery, but very few last more than an hour. Most only last 10-15 minutes.

I'll accept a plausible explanation, like the house has solar power or is running off a generator. But then I would expect the refrigerator to be running and the lights to still work.

(Gets Tin-Foil Hat Out). Ahem, Don't Believe anything "They" say!
There are No Zombies... The "Power" never went out! "It's An Illusion"
Someone Unscrewed all the Light Bulbs while you were asleep...

Now they shut off all our Water while we went looking for these Imaginary (Battery's) & are watching us right now... Shhh.... Don't Look!

.... Or they might take out last Peice of Moldy Bread :)

Edit: Sorry, bored my B-Day today... Nothing to do.

Depending on the age of the battery maybe 4-8 hours at most. Beyond that, dead.

When our battery was getting old, we had a power outage and I think it lasted about 3 hours before it started giving the low batt warning. I'm not sure how long after that it would have lasted if the power hadn't came back on.

I'm going to add to the list of people who say that's entirely unrealistic. Batteries, at most, would last a day after the power went out. After that, there should be no more alarms. I see no reason why the game should sacrifice realism for the miniscule difficulty increase. It really doesn't make any sense.

I'm going to Expand on what He/She said.

My Thoughts On This
Now House Alarms have a "Back Up System" in the event the (Power) is Cut/Out.
Most Alarms run off a BUB 12 Volt, good for 24 Hours (Depending on the System) &
Human Intervention. This can decrese if it has a LCD/TP Access Pad, & or Motion Lights.

The Battery is not used in tell the moment the Power is lost. Up until this Point it was Charging. So now let's talk about the Alarm In-Game.

Even if the Power goes out 4 day's before the "Actual Alarm" sounds, don't mean it's dead?
Because it was not (Fully Activated) until that moment when You or a Zombie GF "Tripped It".

Now lets just say, there are no ML or LCD/TP in the game world. So it's just the Alarm itself.
Basic Setup: (I think applies to this situation)
  • Battery 12 Volt
  • SA Signal, & Notification (Sound).
  • (Basic) 12-Digit Keypad

Once "Tripped" it could last for quite a while. In less it was destroyed by something.
So what he said is not Quote: "entirely unrealistic" as some have stated.
In less it's a Trailer Home, that's just ROTFLMAO.

If a Zombie Apocalypse happened Today! We could wander around for weeks tripping Alarms in Places. (Then Running Away like Chickens :). Damnit.. There goes that PS4 in the Shop Window....

Advanced Setup: I Highly Doubt It...
  • 6X Battery 12 Volt, Rotation MBC (Multibank Battery Charger)
  • Silent Alarm, Motion Lights.
  • (Touch Pad) Interface.
  • Camera System. (Back Up) Recorder

Yes... I'm that Bored :)

No, hun. But they last years for a simple motion detector-based house alarm from the 90s. We've had one in our allotment that lasted for 4 years on a single battery.

24 hours without trickle charge . They are meant as a backup for a short power outage , not as a stand alone . As for the 4 years , that would have a 12 volt trickle charge . No battery will hold charge for that long .
