I need confirmation on this though, since at least that's what have been happening in my game.
I once managed to tow something this way, though.
Mine were facing the same direction as the car I was pulling with. I did not even realize you could tow them backwards until now.
Type of part make significant difference in wearout especially offroad.
As in basically impossible?
Yeah it’s ridiculous. I’ve posted in other similar threads. Anyone who’s ever towed a car IRL will know that anything on wheels can be towed quite easily. Unless it’s stuck in gear/in park, wheels roll easy. Doesn’t take much. As it is now it feels like you’re trying to pull a bulldozer behind you.
haha.
you are not alone. experiencing the exact same thing. very difficult to tow. will try the backward thing. [edit. the backward towing worked. could reach 30mph consistently, which is what i recall from b41 tow speeds. i do have speed demon tho.]
i think i read a comment on one of the mods to remove the wheels of the towed vehicle. still have to try that out (because the wheels are adding braking and friction).
i tried to use the 'go brrrr' mod, which makes heavy duty more offroad capable, and standard and sports, less. but still having the same towing issues even with a heavy-duty car.
Despite that towing backwards is indeed smoother no matter what car I use, I actually suspect that it's the one that's actually buggy since I don't think that's how it works IRL.
The Franklin Valuline has always been ♥♥♥♥, but you get the same result with a high powered sports car.
Coming soon: Heavy chain and hook required to tow, because invisible tether not "realistic"
Doomed future aside, here's a couple things I've noticed about towing after a couple hundred hours in B42.
Reverse gear seems to be more powerful than first, regardless of the vehicle, but if you have to go forward, never let your vehicle get into second gear (this applies to more than just towing, i.e. offroading, getting stuck on shrubs, etc) you can tap the brakes so that it drops back down to first. Of course if it comes to a complete stop the only solution is to gradually yank by going back and forth. If you can't get past second gear, do not bother trying to tow long-term with the vehicle in question. Short-term towing to clear roadblocks is viable with almost any vehicle since you can at least make things budge by yanking back and forth.
Tires have an impact on towing viability. I don't even bother trying to tow long term without finding a set of performance tires at high durability. If you look at the vehicle mechanics you will see a traction number for the tire. It goes down with durability and quality (old/regular are trash compared to performance). I don't know what the ideal inflation is, but for my all-performance sets I've been doing 35/40 and results seem alright.
as for the wrecks.... yeah. thats why wrecks IRL are lifted onto a big flatbed with a crane and then hauled off. which you don't have access to; get a torch & commit fuel to the cause if u don't want to inch it.
I tested this in the Week One mod, which sets the car quality to be in high condition.
