Project Zomboid

Late game B42
I want to discuss this but without it being an attack on developers, stop taking everything from back.

What exactly did this version bring that was useful for the late game?

Animals are excellent, the goal will be cows and chickens to gain and maintain weight, the rest is more for immersion.

Things related to metal are still not useful, especially because you will only actually use these things after a year, which is really difficult to achieve.

That is if you can reach higher levels without dedicating your soul to grinding with this wonderful loot we are having.

And this applies to weapons too, is it really necessary to farm like a convict to craft a table leg with a piece of saw? In the late game, zombies aren't even that challenging, boredom is your biggest enemy.

What about firearms? By the time you level up you will have used up all your ammo, there should at least be a way to make more, even if it is difficult. Don't get me wrong, I like the new crosshair, but it doesn't really help much when it comes to leveling up.

Agriculture has become much more complicated than it should be, the best thing to do is to look for some cows and eat grass with them.

Any thoughts? I think the solution is to slightly improve the amount of loot to be found in all containers, and buff the XP gain from skills like metallurgy and the new ones. :katana_bust:

I think crafting item material needs to be upped massively to allow it to be useful crafting

I think long term, things like the carving and pottery skills are okayish to have, but I don't see them as useful to me or desired paths to go into. I think making these type of skills lower to get to max, if the recipes do not exist or are not useful, squash them for now

I agree with the Agriculture, I did a bit in B41, but not really a strong skill I ever did a lot. But B42 is far less forgiving, making it far easier to miss or ruin a crop

I am not gonna lie on firearms, I do not think it needed to be changed, watching a lot of YT multiplayer, maybe the players would want a change, me on single player have not had issues, I think the system was fine, both for base and for modded Britas. I am not understanding what was broken with the aiming system, a different crosshairs is nice, but the changes on accuracy seem way off for the isometric style, given the style, I think the old way of locking on your shooting made up for that janky way the game style lays things out. In the same way, I hate melee in FPS, I hate Skyrim melee because of the janky game style does not make it perform as well
You all did not realize why pottery was added.
Because Apiary is coming.
And with all them bees, honey and beeswax you will be making honey and candles.
And pottery is there to support it.
To make from claw candle moulds, to use beeswax as lid to all those pots, medieval style:P

WOW, we're getting an update for bees, looks like someone didn't learn anything from Minecraft
As it stands, nothing. I'm pretty sure the devs also acknowledge this months ago. B42 doesn't really address late game issue, but simply works as a foundation for their idea of late game.

The best aiming system this game could have would be similar to the one Darkwood has imo. 2 aiming lines that go from the sides of your character to meet in the center. Shots, movement, your skill level, pain, and panic would affect the aiming lines.

This look sick in Zomboid 🥶

Something like that is kinda how it already works, except the reticle replaces the two lines (in this case the reticle represents the base of a more 3d cone to Darkwood's 2d slice) given Zomboid's extra (simulated) viewing dimension.

soon as someone says "late game" or "end game" I know they don't really get this game

Late game is whatever you want to do. One constant is, well, constant: Aal you built, looted, your car collection, your books, everything just holds you back.

What is my late game?
I use all the above as support for improving my character. When my skills are high enough, i load up the van with essentials, forget about all that and head that way. Then, there is nothing holding me back. I dont have to go back to check on the farm, refuel the genny, none of that. Just go that way, live off the land.

I finally got me a Petyarbilt with a trailer yesterday. Banged up, but my mechanic skill is high enough to get it back up in shape. Over 1200 storage on that trailer. It has a bed, a small fridge and a microwave. What else do i need?
Late game will always have the same problem, there comes a time when everything runs by itself and you get bored. The only thing that can partially solve it is adding toys to kill time, arcade machines that you can play to kill dead time, play darts, pool, maybe TV shows that are real short films etc... that's the problem I found in my long games, you had just watered the plants and you had 4 hours left until bedtime, too early to go to bed and too late to start a journey for loot... in the end you get bored because you end up leveling up skills that you no longer need and building things that no longer have any real use in your game.

correct - once the youtubers get on the stables theyll catch on - its gonna be alot of group play
I think the biggest problem is the focus on all these new systems and mechanics rather than focus on what the game actually needs... More dynamic and fun melee combat (the shooting I thought was fine before), and story content and NPCs are SORELY needed. Also, the loot tables are so vastly non-rewarding now that it ruins the experience.
