Whats the best way to chop down trees in 42?
Axes wear out very quickly now. Any tips? Haven't found any wood axes yet though.

Grind maintenance then make 200+ crude stone axes. That's 1 axe for 1 tree.

That's 67% more axe per chop!
Stone axes are super cheap and easy to make, just make a bunch. Yeah they break too easy now, but just make them in bulk knowing that ahead of time. Ive got maintenance 8 on my current character and Im still only getting through 1 to 3 trees per ax

What i always wondered: Were there no chainsaws in 1993 rural Kentucky? Were they all banned due to a rather unfortunate Chainsaw-juggling mishap at a daycare centre?

Probably. It's easier to ban than guns because 2nd amendment doesn't cover chainsaws.

On a more serious note i read on another post that chainsaws were in the game at some point but got removed due being too janky.
Use pen.

Not in the past few (?) years. I'm playing since b38 (pre vehicles), and chainsaws weren't part of the - base - game.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can't personally confirm, I only started from B41. Ask the old ppl, i'm too young for this.

"The first functional chainsaw was added in build 41, however with only very basic functionality and only obtainable in debug mode or with server commands. The chainsaw was only added at this stage while RJ was experimenting with the new animations and weapon models, but was never removed. "

Probably threw them into the river with a bunch of sledgehammers
well you won't get a good gardening shop until you get one with a power tool section.
You know on some ground an earth augar could be used to start off a well hole that can be dug, And a hedge cutter blades will jam on contact with bone, it would be like, okay i have a hand held hedge cutter, to actually damage this zombie i need to very carefully catch it at furthest point of maximum range. otherwise the cutters will jam on his bones and clothing.

A chain saw, it is possible the thread will jam the mechanism on clothes. But i am not familiar using a chainsaw so don't know if it would be as common as a hedge cutter would suffer.

THe weed whacker, or strimmer is the long pole of them and well, the character holds it like they would hold a battering ram. and they would try to jab as if its a spear

the hand held leaf blower is useless as a weapon, unmodified.

the backpack leaf blower is useless as a weapon unmodified.

and aside modified heads for the strimmer spear, such as bladed, or scrub brush, or metal wire, barbed wire could do, and saw blade.

How we go about having player be able to throttle is a control scheme question
how we want to jam it sometimes just jam the strimmer against a zombie but we dont want to throttle, and if we hit a strike, we could hold a thottle on it, eventually cause a knock down, but sometimes ensnare the zombie so it cant be knocked down and does splatter damage and kills it.

I guess the weapon needs to snare the zombie, and on snare you can decide to throttle or detatch

Go to McCoy logging and steal all of the cut logs and cut planks trust me you want to do this first especially if you plan on building a big base you will be surprised on how many already cut planks you will find and how little of a base that will actually build you and how many millions of hours of chopping trees and sawing them into planks you will save. By all means if you want to waste many hours actually chopping the trees first that is your prerogative but it takes real life time and game time and it is annoying. In a recent playthrough making four trips getting 40 planks each time that got me a grand total of three fenced in areas for my animals. So imagine how long it's going to take you to get 160 planks by chopping the trees first

The large stone axe seemed to work wonders when I used it, too bad you need 5 knapping or somethin for it
I don't know what the issue is. I built 60 wall sections today, using 80 logs, all of which came from trees I chopped down with a wood axe.

1 Wood axe.

Was in perfect shape when I started. Was at about 80% (Sharp, head, handle) when I finished.
\I'd say the best way to chop down trees is with an axe.

Chainsaws would be pretty useless in the apocalypse - the amount of maintenance required to keep them in good shape is insane on a regular day. I don't know how long they can go through bone but as soon if the blades contact the ground during use it pretty much needs maintenance.

edit sorry didn't see the last post was days old
