You just need a pen to write on the map. As for mods, I believe some do, some don't - usually the description of the mod will tell you

you can add mods while you play - and mostly they will just work - removing mods from a game is more problematic - since that can delete items

however - some mods do need you to start a fresh game

many mods will say on the mod page if they need you to start fresh - also if they have sandbox settings you will either need to start a new game or use the Change Sandbox Settings mod

also be aware that mods that affect loot or items might not affect items you have already found or places you have already explored

when adding new mods, best to always start a new game first and see if the mod is working as intended before starting a serious play through

yeah - although occasionally i am tempted to just subscribe to a mod collection and go for it :-)

know what you mean, when I browse the workshop, I tend to get carried away and add like 4-5 new mods to check them out only to end up with one not working correctly and then have to figure out what one it is lol

lol - yeah - currently got about 250 mods waiting to be tested (and another 50 or so that i'm currently playing around with - and maybe a few dozen solid regulars that i will pretty much always keep activated)

am thinking of doing a run with Snakes modpack - or maybe the collection of snake compatible mods

the subscribing to a mod collection thing might work quite well for me, since i keep all my mods local - so if i subscribe to a mod collection i can get mod manager to filter on workshop and just enable everything

either way - i really need to get a handle on my mod addiction so that i can actually do myself a solid playthrough lol :-)
