and i for one will be locking my game to whichever stable version comes before any decision to add crossplay - since as a single player i have no desire to have third party console integration stuff installed and running in the background - since the companies that control that part of the industry have even less respect for customer privacy than the vultures that stalk the PC highways
and to use mods they would likely need (or choose) to use a third party supplier like mod.io - again something that makes my skin crawl
i'm already concerned about the suggestions of using commercial grade "anti cheat" software - since that stuff is pretty much just spyware - and having it installed and possibly even running in the background when i only play single player is not a prospect i am happy about
thankfully the devs seem pretty open about communicating, as well as seeming to understand some of the concerns that people like me might have, at least based on some comments i saw about possible publishing deals in the past
and if they do think about consoles, then i can't imagine it would be for quite some time until they would think to integrate such a thing, even if they are working on it
and hopefully if they do, they will be mindful of those who have no interest in multi player, let alone crossplay, and give those players the option to opt out from having those components installed, at the expense of having no access to multi player features
it's not that i don't want console players to be able to enjoy this game, either on their own or with friends - but it's hard enough to keep the PC games companies from installing spyware on our machines (and making us agree to it in their horrific and hard to believe are actually legal EULAs) - and like i said the console companies have even fewer scruples since they managed to get consoles to become always online, account required, data mining and microtransaction machines - without anyone seeming to bat an eyelid
but like i said - any console port will likely be a ways off - and i hope that whatever anti cheat the devs consider, that they're mindful of the risk versus reward, especially based on the mostly non competitive, non esports nature of the game - and the large single player contingent for which it would offer no benefit at best
so yeah - that's my rant ;-)
