Paint can't be used to cover windows?
So I found a warehouse that I decided to turn into a base. Only problem was the ground floor windows had no curtains. What I did have was a couple of buckets of paint. I was disappointed when I tried to use the paint to black out the windows and was unable to. Any reason why we can't do this?

Likely they just didnt think of it honestly. It's not something that would come to mind when thinking of ways to cover up windows, but this should totally be added

It's not an option, and I can't name a mod to add this. You have to do it in classic way:
Grab some sheets and cover the windows with those.

oh i never even thought of that. they should add it.
but for now, you have 2 options
1-grab some curtains with item pickup(the box on left) or remove it to get sheet. if you use pickup mode you get the exact curtain but they are unplacable on glass doors or doors with windows.
2-or cover the window by placing 3 planks or a metal sheet on one of the sides or both.

Brilliant.

If there's no power and it's night, I would still feel better putting half a can of any color layer of paint over the window before I go to sleep in the room in the middle of nowhere. Nothing should be able to see into the dark from the dark through multiple layers from half a bucket onto a couple windows.

But ya, I'll take foil, cardboard, foam... all of it. I like the way you think.

newspaper and tape to cover a window would be cool as well.

there is one liquid we have in huge quantities that we could use to cover the windows

and when the light shines through it at least Roxanne would feel at home..... ;-)

Paint window in real life, see light through window anyway. Would probably have to be multiple thick coatings of something like flat black to work.

Tin foil, cardboard, foam .etc would all do better.

Paint it on thick. Latex paint is very opaque with even a single coat and a single bucket of paint goes a LONG way especially when considering the surface area of the average window. Usually you're painting an entire wall with a bucket of paint.

well the Roxanne reference was related to the color that the windows will be once we have painted them with this liquid (is an old pop song, possibly by Sting and The Police)

and there is only one liquid that we have in copious quantities in this game that could possibly be used as paint

however, i suspect any humor that may have been present in my post has died by being bitten in the face and leaking yet more liquid onto the ground - to be used to paint the windows

Ah. I suppose you could use blood as paint but using blood during a blood-borne pandemic is probably not the most sanitary option. It would attract flies (might be a good way to make a maggot farm) and it appears that the virus remains active post mortem so coating a large surface that is capable of cutting people when broken in pathogen laden zombie juice is probably not a great idea.

got somewhat confused when i think this thread got briefly locked earlier - couldn't work out why - thought maybe all the talk of blood lol - but guessing was a mistake

but yeah - probably blood might not work out so well for home decoration

now as a weapon against other human players - oh yes indeed - where are those water balloons lol (i don't play MP, so will be waiting patiently for NPCs before i use these evil weapons)

also - you could make a suggestion about painting windows in the suggestion forum - since while it may not be great at shutting out light - it can stop people and zombies from seeing or being seen through windows - which certainly will make an impact - and is quicker and cheaper than boarding them up - while also harder to remove than sheets (and how they can block light i am not sure lol - but lets assume they are really blankets)

Ok I'll do that.
