Having issues with some gas store shelves.
Is there any way to dismantle the gas stores "Generic Cooled Shelves"? They're consuming generator power and I don't want them to, but I can't disassemble them. I get my welder mask + propane torch out, but when I right click, the option to disassemble doesn't show up. Torch is fueled, so I don't see any other problem. Are they even salvageable?

Try to pick them up using the furniture placement tool.

Also, does your propane torch have any fuel in it? Most things don't use fuel to dismantle, but the torch does need to have some fuel in it for it to work.

Oh, I forgot about the placement tool, thanks

Turns out I need electricity 1 for that so I'm starting to just wreck every digital watch and radio I come through :D

You may encounter other things that require something else but a blow torch. In those cases usually right clicking on it will tell the appropriate tool, and once you equip it the appropriate skill too:) Helps a lot.

I just checked and it does not seem like those can be disassembled for some reason. You will have to pick them up to get rid of them.

Yeah, I couldn't even pick them up though for some reason. I leveled up electricity, and had a screwdriver, which were the requisites for picking it up, and it still didn't let me. I had to fkn install the cheat menu mod just to remove those 2 pesky shelves, Previously my fuel consumption rate was 0.36L p/h, now it is 0.16L p/h. I'd say it was worth it lol

Likely a mod is interfering with these shelves then. In vanilla you can currently strip a store down to the last dust bunny.

I just tried to pick them up and even though I should have been able to pick them up nothing happened. I tried the shelves at the little shop across from the school in Westpoint but they are labeled "Generic Cooled Shelves" so they should be the same ones you are trying to pick up. Oddly when I tried picking them up the ghost image showed three wide shelves instead of the two wide shelves that are actually there and I have a feeling that this has something to do with it. I have a few mods but none should interfere with this.

Electricity skill is a easier to read a book if you can find it, just like mechanics, metal work else it really levels slow.

Sorry for necroing, but I was wondering if there is any update on this? I'm having the same issue in the Zippee Market in Louisville. (No, its not mods. The ''Generic Cooled Shelves'' cannot be removed even with a screwdriver and the appropriate skills).
You mentionned the cheat mod which I've tried, but when testing, it seems that deleting an object next to the wall also deleted the wall. How did it go for you? Thanks!

This bug is definitely still around. Just had it in my game.
The way I got around it is as follows:
  • Close game
  • Go to C:\Users\[your_windows_username]
  • Copy your Zomboid folder to create a backup
  • Relaunch game with -debug
  • Load up your save
  • Click on the debug menu and select Item List
  • Spawn in a Sledgehammer
  • Right Click -> Destroy -> target the offending Generic Cooled Shelves and destroy them
  • Throw the Sledgehammer in any trash can and click Delete All on the top of the trash can's inventory window
  • Quit to Desktop and remove -debug
  • Enjoy a Generic Cooled Shelves-free game the next time you load the save
Note: spawning in and deleting the Sledgehammer can be skipped if you already have a Sledgehammer. I'm not sure if debug mode is needed if you have a Sledgehammer already, but I didn't so this is how I fixed it.

I ran into a similar situation in the Rosewood Courthouse. One of the courtrooms has extra-long sets of Pews that showed up as objects to disassemble on the Disassemble tool, but clicking on them wouldn't make my character actually disassemble them. I also could not rotate them or pick them up.

I have to wonder if it has something to do with the length of the disassemble-able object being different than the "base" version, because recently when I tried to move the Cooled Shelves in the "Milk-n-more" store in Riverside, the object "preview" showed them as being about twice as long as the object in-game.

I both cases, the game was entirely modless.

The shelves are even worse. There isn't even a Disassemble option.

It's bizarre that this bug is still not fixed... After so many years. It's really annoying and immersion-breaking bug.

I think that the theory in this thread is correct. You can disassemble and move 3X sized cooled shelves, but when you try to do this to 2X sized cooled shelves, game WANTS to think its 3X sized, and then nothing happens. This screenshot proves this:

The BanHammer is notoriously hard to find in early game, you know.
