No fire in MP? Help appreciated.
I am hosting a game with a friend, and fire does not seem to work. I understand there are settings for this in the server.ini. However I have made sure that "NoFire" is set to false. I have also made sure that fire is allowed to spread through safehouses (though we haven't claimed any). I also checked the game mode settings and fire is allowed to spread. As far as I can tell the settings that allow fire are all turned on, and after some searching I can't seem to find any examples of anyone else having this issue. I am not sure what is restricting the fire, however even if I load an oven with food and let it sit for 30 IRL minutes, it won't catch. I can throw twenty screwdrivers and forks into a microwave and it'll just bzzt until it's done with no results.

I have created multiple server rule sets to test this and it is a common issue among all of them. Does anyone have any advice for this?

I discovered this when my first character during our session was bit, and decided to kill himself in a house fire and bring down any zombies who came to check (I was playing a character who was naive and didn't realize how dangerous this would be to everyone else). I threw some food and newspaper into the oven, left it on, and sat there till he died and turned which took about an hour and a half of IRL time. I went back to the house with my friend and the home was still untouched and the oven was still on.

To confirm, this is only happening to me in MP, in single player oven fires are still easy to produce.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi mate! I'm still pretty noob here but ¿is this server vanilla? ¿Molotovs work normally?

Because it really sounds like a mod issue. We have changed versions now and it might be an incompatible or not up-to-date mod in conflict. You say you can't get fires from ovens and some tiny stuff has changed about microwaves or items going into microwaves, idk, might be a cook-related mod.

When activating the fire from within the server settings, it works as intended in vanilla servers, at least that's my experience.

Nope, we are very new to Zomboid and we don't have any mods in use. So I can't say it is anything like that.

I will also add this is why it is so weird? Cause clearly fire works in servers for others. So I have no idea what weird setup I have that would cause this problem.

To add further to this, I did test molotvs. I ran out into a forest and threw one. It fizzled out like nothing was there. The only way the fire was spread was by Zombies.

That's a toggle option in server creation, don't remember where but try looking for it

As far as I can tell I have tried turning that setting off and on in the server creation settings. Nothing seems to change.

If it is acceptable I am going to bump this. I am at a loss for what is causing this for me.

To continue to add to this. I have checked the ini files and also played around with all the settings. I have tried multiple different types and forms of fire. Yet fire continues to sizzle out early on, or be a no factor if a fire hazard is present. I have run a dedicated server and found that the problem is present if I host a game and also run a server. Either with or without default settings. No mods, and no other alterations exist that could be causing this, and I have verified my game files just to be sure. What could be causing this for me?

With all due respect, I have mentioned before that I have played around with all the settings that seem to effect fire in the game.

Here are some screenshots I took that demonstrate that i have all the basic fire settings on so they work (unless I have misunderstood something):

Again. The reason why I am asking for help is despite having all these settings on (as well as having played around with them). I can turn on an oven and let the food in it burn, I can go into the middle of a forest and throw a molotov. Nothing seems to catch fire, and fire starting hazards aren't working. The only thing that has ever caught fire are zombies, and they will spread the fire elsewhere, but it will fizzle out. The only thing that catches are Zombies.

I may be misunderstanding or just have a dent in my head in regard to these settings. Cause I don't know what is causing this problem.

Bump again

Does this thread need to be moved to bugs? I didn't think that this would probably be better there.
Imperial Gothic Nov 18, 2022 @ 1:56pm
After some more work. I believe fire is mostly working as intended (Check statement below for why i am hesitant). The issue is with the microwaves and ovens which are not starting fires in MP when left unattended or intentionally used to start a fire.

I started a separate thread for the microwaves and ovens in the bug section which i believe is a better place for this discussion.

The only thing I am wondering is if fires are not designed to spread in forests. I can throw a molotov in the forest and the fire will not spread.
