fish fillet
A big fish can fill you for over a day by itself, when i cut up fish the fillet only says -5 hunger, doing it ever worth it? i was going to store meat for winter since i heard fishing in winter is not good. Should i just freeze cabbage instead and work on traps?

You fillet a fish if you want to add them to an advanced ingredients. And the hunger reduction from the fillets equals to the total hunger reduction of the whole fish.

Yep.

(I also edited this reply five times while writing. But in the end i can only put this single word in safely:P)
You cut the big fish into many smaller chunks, they aren't as individually filling but will give you much more options for a greater number of meals (the fish itself can only be four meals on its own).

Cooked fish filets have no unhappiness malus when cool so they're really low effort food prep when you need to gain weight. Don't filet a fish until you're ready to cook so they last longer. Fishing at around level 5 is serviceable in winter but only during peak fishing hours. 4-6 and 20-22 IIRC. The downside of fish is that it rots fast and takes up a lot of space but this is an actual upside for composting. Finally, use fish traps to catch bait fish. You only catch pike with bait fish. Pike are freakin' huge.

Ohhh, why didn't I think of that? I keep getting the smaller fish and hoping for pike. I have a couple fish traps somewhere I'll give this a shot.

Fish is the only renewable protein that you can put on a pizza in game. It sounds kinda gross to me, but since I got cooking to 10 I'm real big into using things as ingredients to make more complex food to stretch supplies out further.

It is not top tier, it requires alot of different ingredients, and takes a fair bit of work. It cuts into 6 slices (or maybe 5?). I don't use it as a primary food to make. Nothing I make is primary. It's all added together from what I have. I make alot of stews, roasts, stir fry, pizza and even granola bars. If you want to make food go as far as you can though you need to cook everything.

Even canned food should, ideally, be used as an ingredient for something. I'm guilty of NOT doing this. But fresh fruits and veggies (foraged or grown) as well as fresh meat (scavenged or trapped/fished) is always used as an ingredient.
