the only games i can think of that are similar to zomboid beyond the view would be rimworld and kenshi
That being said, as a PZ enjoyer, I love Kenshi. Could give it a try, and hope it scratches that itch.
The default game is sci-fi themed, but you could cap the tech tree to being medieval, and even make zombies a regularly spawning enemy, complete with infection mortality for anyone who gets injured by one.
It has a lot of RPG elements, where every character has their stats, a recorded history, and a personality that affects their behavior. But the game is focused more towards management and colony building.
Rimworld's big brother is Dwarf Fortress, which has a mode for just inhabiting one character and taking them through a procedural-generated world.
What about zombies is for you not fantasy?
Though a version of Starship Troopers done in this games likeness... I would buy instantly lol IF had NPC's well done of course.
Achso. Like Sacred.
