Targeting Priority
Is there any way to change the aiming with guns so it prioritizes the targets closest to you or some way that I can aim manually? It's getting a bit frustrating always hitting targets that are further away instead of the one in point blank range.

Turn on target highlights, then you know where you're aiming.

If you hit something else, thats just reflective of your character's aiming skill and panic levels.

I asked if there's a way to prioritize closer targets. I already know about all of that.
There's a mod, called "Advanced trajectory". It let's you aim at your heart's content

Appreciate it. That should fix things.

Your cursor affects the targetting. If you point the cursor all the way towards the edge of the screen, you'll be targetting faraway zeds first.

I could have it right in front of me and it would still do the same.

The problem isn't missing, It's shooting zombies that are further away instead of the ones right in front of you.

Had that happen quite a bit myself. Aimed marker on zombie infront of me. And it shot one behind it and to the left further then I think should of. If was some what behind zombie i aimed at would make sense. But it was over 10 feet to the side and maybe 5 behind it lol But it could of been just my bad aim lol

Yeah I don't really understand how the game decides what to target. I use shotguns alot and there's been plenty of the times where the zombies directly in front of me would be highlighted green and still somehow miss and hit zombies several feet behind them.

+1 - priotizing closer targets would be on my wishlist too.
Because it's even worse with 5.56mm (semi)automatic rifles at times. (longer range, no spread)
Instead of shooting the zombies right in front - they're closing in, are ~10 meters away and
I'm aiming at them... I'M AIMING AT THEM! - my guy rather goes for zombies, who are completely minding their own business, almost out of sight over at the next block. :D

That is all that is needed for the game to target the zombie closest to you. IDK what youre on about

I honestly never have this problem with any of the firearms, even rifles. Maybe try backing away and aim again?

I must be playing a different version of the game because that simply isn’t the case for me.

I found out about this "feature" while devving my own gun mod and I isolated it to the firearm's MinAngle stat. Unless the MinAngle + your character's AimingPerkMinAngleModifier = 1, then this will happen from time to time.

The MinAngle seems to create a sort of a cone through which you pick off your target zombies, but if the cone is wide enough, you'll sometimes hit adjacent zombies instead.

I found it to be particularly important to have the stat exactly 1 with a sniper rifle equipped with a x4-x12 scope on it, because when trying to pick off a certain zombie from a group of 5 or more, you'd almost always hit an adjacent zombie, not the one you want.

Even when the total MinAngle is 1, you can rarely hit a zombie you aren't aiming at. Probably when there's more than 1 zombie occupying the exact same tile.

Some gun mods have their MinAngle + Aiming 10 AimingPerkMinAngleModifier = more than 1 but I don't know exactly what happens when the cone turns 1+.

You can try for yourself and have your total MinAngle be 0.8 or less, and then try to snipe a zombie from a big group 50 tiles away. You'll run out of ammo before you even hit 'em, lol.
