The only way that I know of that stops bushes and saplings from growing is to build a wooden floor. Then if you want to make it look real nice, pour gravel bags over your wooden driveways, it ends up looking surprisingly good.
I think gravel roads don't actively damage your vehicle like offroading does, but it's just a touch slower than road roads. Also if you do build wooden driveways, they act like roads as well.
Normal gravel roads can erode.
There is a mod called Zombie Harvester. It is a combine tractor, and it removes trees, shrubs and weeds. It is not balanced... But you could use it only to drive up your road to clear it. If you use it for more you will become to OP. So its a two edged sword. It works well for that use.. but has other OP uses. Though in settings you can remove those other uses!
Is mod I meant. But just another heads up it can be VERY op if used for others functions it has.
Again I have to stress only use it on your roads for clearing or you ruin game. I only mention mod as it is best way I found to clear roads of trees and such. Unless you collect lot of gravel or sand to cover wood roads. I do like how you can turn off in settings all the functions. So it is less OP. I cant use it as I tend to.. get spoiled with it and rely on it too much lol
