The second, not really, most other games around this long in early access stagnate and/or get abandoned.

But I am unsure if he is talking about development in general, or just early access.
zomboid has been on steam early access since 2013... I think it hold that title for the longest game on steam early access but I'm unsure.
Still, its been 11 years since then and 13 years since it first appeared online (the web version). Its been too long.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 is floating at 16 years and going. Their original creative director died in 2023, and the dev team only replaced him this year, 2024.
Duke Nukem Forever was cooking for 15 years before it released to v1.0.
Metroid Dread was at 16 years in development by the time it went "gold-master" in 2021.
same with Duke Nukem Forever, Metroid Dread and Kien. They did not sell until it was released.
Zomboid has been for sale for 11 years now and still years away from being finished...
I don't understand how there isn't a law that limits the period of time on which a game can be in early access for... Its insane how long it has been...
The only other game that got updates and didn't have major issues along the road and was actually selling was Unreal World, which is still receiving updates to this day (selling since 1992 btw).
Zomboid dev team been selling this game for 11 years...... They almost have the longest record for actually selling a game while it is not finished.
All the other games that were mentioned, did not ask for money before the official release and they had terrible development cycles.
Its just looks like zomboid devs just like to cower behind the legal shield of an "early access" title.
I really wish there was a law or something about this... At least a limit...
:wince: I hope that Ubisoft Montpellier can somehow "abandon ship" and reform as an independent studio. They made some bangers over the years; however, if that office is suffering from the same brain diarrhea that afflicts Ubisoft HQ in Saint-Mande', then yet another veteran game studio (Ubisoft Montpellier started in 1994) will have died-off.
Could be worse. Imagine the screaming if The Indie Stone had taken players and VC's for $750+ million USD.
Makes it relativly good to know this is not the only game. I just don'T want to wait anymore. It's like a Zombie that you can hear, but can't find to slay.
