in singleplayer, why go for a truck or van?
okay so ive just come to realisation that the carry weight of all the seats + trunk in a normal sedan type car has more combined carry weight than the back of a van or truck. i understand the horsepower is lower so i cant tow things as easily but for loot runs it seems almost always better to just go with a car with a lot of seats in it rather than a 2-seater van. obv this is different in MP where u need more seats unblocked for players to sit in but for singleplayer purposes a van seems pretty much obsolete

Did you check wiki, or just compare two cars in the game? Because trunk space can vary, and you can repair trunks to carry more.

Also it's rad that you can place any single super heavy item on a car seat and not take up trunk space. For example you can place a genny or a fridge on a car seat even though they're way heavier than the encumbrance limit of car seats.

This was fun to find out by accident. Nowadays I always have a four-seater and at some point three of those seats will be for gennies. :D

lol - i forgot about that one - it's been so long since i reported bugs - is probably kind of weird that i am looking forward to reporting bugs once the B42 beta drops lol

also @OP - the truck has more space than a 4 seater (160 in the trunk and 20 in the seat, plus the glitch for the seat if wanted - whereas the best car has 60 from the seats and 85 for the trunk)

plus i'm pretty sure there are vans with 5 spare seats and a trunk - which will beat a regular car

From what I've seen, some step vans can hold up to 160 in their trunk, + 20 in the passenger seat, and +10 in the Glovebox, which equals to 190, while with things like a taxi, 20x3 + 10 + 55 = 125, but with the Minibus Valuline, 5 seats so 20x5 + 10 + 50 = 160, so all non-truck cars still have less than Trucks, but there is one non-truck/van that is a close contender, and doesn't have to jeopardize speed either, which is the Franklin All-Terrain: 85 + 20x3 + 10 = 155.

that's it, the minibus valuline - 5 seats plus trunk etc - with the benefit of the seat glitch

but personally i like the nice big trunk of the step van - everything in one place :-)

and then there are so many many wonderful vehicle mods with trucks and trailers to make us hoarders wet our shorts ;-)

Its easier to get stuff out of the back of a van with the ultimate convenience being the pickup
Animalman Nov 30, 2024 @ 2:36pm
one major convenience is that you can drag and drop onto the floor. And just clear the van or pickup of items. Cant do that with a car door

plus with using car seats as storage you can accidentally get in the wrong door and it'll try and transfer every item to a different seat - all sorts of crazy stuff when using car seats as storage lol

Organized trait, and all that becomes even more noticeable:)

ahh i just compared in game but this makes a lot of sense... does the seat condition affect it's capacity too?

I don't think so, but as others mentioned, there's a glitch with seats, so that you can put bigger things in a seat than its size, anyway. :)

only just noticed this thread is yours lol

yeah, lower condition reduces capacity (EDIT: oops, not for seats - but yes for trunks)

can get to weird scenarios where you have more stored in the trunk than its capacity allows, because it got damaged after you loaded it - but you can still store it there - but if you remove stuff you can't store it again

also - without mods you cannot swap trunks between vehicles - but you can repair them if you have high mechanics and metalwork (iirc some things need mech 3, metal 1, and some are the other way around)

my bad - i just read it properly - yeah doesn't affect seats - but they have a glitch where you can store a single item on them that weighs any amount - but just one - can't recall if it can be a bag

It also comes down to personal preference. I dont like most estate cars for example so I would always prefer a saloon over it. The kind of car you vibe with is as important as the characteristics of the car. Both go hand and hand for overall happiness. I'm sure my other car people will get that.

There is some psychology to it and the kind of vehicle you drive, can say alot about yourself down to the tiniest detail. Just like many other things can.

Theres also the purpose of owning said vehicle. Not many people would go for a Chevalier Cossette but I would for one reason; they're speedsters. Get to point A from point B quickly. These kinds of vehicles can be used for scouting and for a quick extraction of particular loot when a much bigger, cumbersome vehicle would be a hindrance.

I have a system in palce where I have multiple vehicles fit for their own purpose.

For general purpose I'll have a truck. For general storage and bulk loot runs I'll have something like a military truck. For recon and quick extraction I'll have something like a sports car that I call 'Runners'. Then I'll have a compact car like a hatch-back used to get into tight small places such as inside buildings or use an ATV.
