i only play single player, and one time i spawned in the Louisville mall (North East corner of the map), so there were no zombies, and natural barriers on one or two sides, and a camping shop, with all the best gear, and a mall full of shops - so i camped out there

and then i went outside to test out a molotov (hadn't used them before) - and it worked and burned some zombies - and i thought they were dead - so i went on a little run for something (can't even remember what)

and when i came back the mall was in the process of burning to the ground

i was barely able to salvage any stuff as i rushed around the burning store, and out to a car among the increasingly alert zombies - and drove out of town, knowing that i was leaving the only safe place on the whole map

the sadness was at least alleviated by acknowledging some of the best emergent storytelling i had ever experienced

really looking forward to the story generator stuff in B42 :-)
NEXT TIME WILD-FIRE RELAUNCHES.

MY HAREEEM OF WOMEN

ARE GONNA GO 2 EVERY BOOK SHOP AND LIBRARY IN THE ENTIRE MAP
AND BURN .

THIS WAY ONLY SKILL BOOKS PLAYERS BE GETTING IS ON LOOT
FROM THE HOUSES.

WHICH WILL BE A ARDER GAME 4 THEM.

ITS TOO EASY.
On my server, a group played for a few months, then somehow in some sort of conflict or accident... half of Riverside got burned down. And they left.
Keep on surviving in the apocalypse! This is great stuff.

Slowly, other parts of other towns got destroyed by Molotov (yes, it was a conscious decision to keep fire ON & full PVP & safehouses can be looted & burned - MAXIMUM threat level from the apocalypse. adrenaline filled game play with the utmost unpredictability), I love it.

HOWEVER:

I will not mention the steam player (dont ask, because i will not publicly call them out on a forum), but somebody knows how to gain admin rights to bypass the server safehouse no fire rules and remove your safehouse and burn it all down. I know it was the same user on my server that burned a bunch of safehouses (yes, fire rule was off and it was burnable) and then on a different server, that had safehouses AND NO FIRE...everyone lost their stuff to troll. THAT DOES SUCK HORRIBLY. No interaction with players. log in when no one is around and admin teleport to every safehouse on the list, release the safehouse, burn it and delete all the vehicles there. items on ground dont burn, so all the sheet metal lying around was also deleted. then they move on to another server... sad really.

I know it was the same player, they chose the same game user name in multiple servers. I know the steam id too to match them from my database. These trolls suck.

=================================
I do love the long term server that does not reset and you can watch the world slowly fall apart. This is exciting to me. loot and zombie respawn needs to be on for new players joining to have fun too.

So yes, libraries will get destroyed, cars will slowly become dismantled hunks of unusable parts. windows will slowly become smashed... This is all good in my eyes, EXCEPT WHEN IT IS JUST A TROLL.

Some players aren't trolling though, they are coming from solo where things are different. And some are just genuinely naive about not busting up every cabinet that might one day respawn yummy loot. They never worry about that in solo.

Multiplayer is a harsh game sometimes.

(I always try to grab one of each book i find and hide it somewhere in the world for the future me)
not only is multiplayer harsh as of recently it is full of players who don't know what fun is.

I don't care if the gunshops are burned, or the bookshops are burned, or that there was no option for a safehouse. That there were no safe zones. Thats what the padlock is for. thats also why you barricade doors so they can't be opened from one side.
If u get robbed u get robbed and you go out and reclaim your losses and try to set up some place even less likely to be discovered.

The books are garbage. I dislike when the player dismantle furniture particuarly beds. when you go into a house and some idiot has dismantlled everything. even the wooden stool.
i hate that more than i hate no book access. and no gun access. thats the most hated thing imo is the the furniture.

Sure hackers hack hackers hack But real players who like it hard set up shop and make it work.

Its been such a long time since good servers ran for it. That now nobody seems to know how to play the local game anymore.
Oh, and let me tell you about one of the libraries on my server.
It burned up. Sad. And you would immediately think TROLL.

However looking at the scene when I saw it, I came to the conclusion that a noob player accidentally lit up the place. Why?

There was a campfire inside. Yes, but trolls do that....
Sure do, but they had it set up like a camp. Books they were finished reading on the ground near the campfire. Empty cans by the fire, so they were eating and reading when it went south. I feel this one was an noob accident. They truly did not know a camfire indoors might ignite the structure. That is the feeling I got when survey the scene.
For real though if a hacker can access a list of safehouses and teleport to them when the players are offline even. THen thats a major vulnerability and reason to switch safehousing off entirely.

You should
A) take the battery or seats out of your car when you log off and hold them in inventoru
B) use the padlock to padlock crafted crafts containing stuff you want to keep hold of
C) put objects infront of doors so they cannot be opened
D) sheet rope and sledge the stairs
E) park in obscure area of woods or blend in amongst other wrecked and damaged vehicles that players are unlikely to check

I have a good feeling you have traveled through one of my old server at one point.

I'm only basing that on seeing a player with various iterations of AnimalMan as a name.

It might have been my first server, after 41 multiplayer released. I no longer have that database to look up the names used.

yes. this guy teleported to every safehouse, removed the safehouse so it became burnable. burned them all to ashes, deleted all good items on ground, deleted all cars...

After the shock when everyone logged in to nothing, and the anger and rage quits settled down.... people started grouping up that never grouped up before...

"I have a place that wasn't a safehouse, so it didn't get burned. Everyone is welcome to come to me."
"I have some food if any one lost everything and needs to eat."

These were common in chat as we all tried to come to grips with loosing our imaginary loot and belongings.
Take all the books you need, and extras. Once you've looted a lifetime supply plus a huge amount for trading, burn down the libraries.

If you can defend it all, you are now the only supply.
There are other issues with safehousing and house collision that is when the players doesn't know he is approaching a safehouse and has hordes on his ass the collision with the invisible wall can nearly get you killed
I honestly do not like safehousing at all. Or vehicle claim. i am 100% a promoter of using the alternative methods to secure loot, Map knowledge, and items

in early days of mp lots of players played realistically but now it does seem like people rely on the safehouse too much. I would normally in single player die quickly because of the difficulties set on it, so if i was to play on a daily basis i would have to play for a server where the rules are downright harsh to newer players. Offer no sanctuary. Where people feel as though they should make base in the forest for safety. And people feel tehse ways nothing more annoying then going through a residential area and bang some dudes epic safehouse and i am unable to punish him for its positioning. or easy abilities to get inside.

i guess when the settings are too easy for the players the players also don't do anythhing interesting. Like no elaborate construction work, No living above the gas pumps etc

another thing is players riding other players
like

the area around the book shop is cleared by player A, then player B can get a free loot in of the leftover books. Legging player B up. Why if that bookshop was burned, and the same situation occur in the residential. well chances are all the good books are taken. Forcing player B in search of unlooted pasture
